Incidentally, since nobody has mentioned it, and for the benefit of anyone who is new to JIS, the fasteners are identified by a single dot or dimple on the screw head.
I'm just surprised it wasn't a torx in the first place, Mercedes love them, both internal and external.
A torx or a star drive are probably favourite, after first soaking, tapping, heating and anything else you can do to loosen the little rascal.
A wrench is when you have to put your dog down.
The people who gave the world the Industrial Revolution called them spanners.
That's good enough for me.
They do? How quaint, in the UK they just take the car, never to be seen again, since it usually ends up in some foreign dung hill far away.
I must admit, someone once stole my front seats, but they were polite enough to lock the vehicle up again afterwards...
Locking wheel nuts, I threw mine away when it occurred to me that the chance of anyone stealing my unremarkable wheels from my unremarkable car was considerably lower than my losing that single coded socket they gave me.
Thinking about it, apart from ritzy aftermarket ones, do people steal...
Beware of the cheap Beta 'Easy' range, made in China they fall far below the real Beta stuff, the 1/2 drive ratchet I foolishly bought (lured by the Beta name) was awful.
I'm convinced that it's one (or several) of the many additives in the ATF that does the trick, with the acetone in the 50/50 just working as a carrier, so I don't think you're far off.
Mikuni do a carb tool kit containing the correct jet screwdrivers among other things, they turn up on FleaBay quite often and aren't dear.
Go for the 8 piece set with yellow driver handle.
I opened up my Beta 'Easy' 1/2 drive ratchet today to find out why it had always felt so rough.
The action was machined perhaps 0.25mm off centre in the handle and askew, complemented by the barest lick of grease complete with some iron filings.
Since I wouldn't pay for engineering like that...
ATF contains more different additives than you could shake a stick at, anti friction, anti oxidant, anti sludge and so on.
Maybe the acetone leaches something out and takes it into the thread?
I picked one of those boxes up from somewhere years ago, they're a Mercedes dealer service set of some description.
All odds and sods but really good kit, I wish I had the full range of them.
