Why not put a bottomless octanginal box on the existing box and the. Run conduit or Bx to a fluorescent light. IMO that would look nice than a receptacle on your ceiling.

Have you considering phoning Williams and buying a rebuild kit? If they are not available you may have to consider giving up on it. You bought it a garage sale it couldn't have been that expensive. Sell it at a slight markup to someone that wants it.
