Thanks Bib Overalls - we wanted the downstairs section to look the same as the existing upstairs section, even though there would be a 13 year age difference between them. We kept the footprint the same too, which left some odd spaces in the garage, but it gave the outside a flush appearance.

For the standard metal hooks, I found I wrapping the inserted ends with electrical tape (cut in half along the width) allows them to sit in the peg board quite tightly.
