    mac tool thread

Years ago I managed to find out who made that bit ratchet and IIRC it was an American manufacturer. For some reason I'm unable to find it again so don't grill me too hard if I'm wrong. Regardless, it's one of my favorite tools. It is as slim as could be and fits absolutely everywhere. The dual...

    New Snap On ratchet XR1390FPA

I'd say it's "Just Right". If you put it at a certain angle it'll stay there, but it's not so stiff that it becomes difficult to position. But in the spirit of full disclosure I'll admit I haven't tried messing with the screw. Just haven't seen any reason to yet.

    New Snap On ratchet XR1390FPA

If that's true that's a shame. I'm pretty eager to try the 1/4" version. I've had the long handle 3/8" for about a month now and some things I've noticed: - It looks awesome. In person the little things like the bevels and USA on the direction selector stand out. - Has a heavy duty feel and a...

Why you shouldn't use cheap Torx bits...

I work on European autos nearly exclusively so my Torx see daily use. For the last few years I've used the MAC shallow/regular/deep sets that I believe were made by VIM. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. To date I have yet to shear one, though I've chipped some teeth off. Every 6 months or so I...

My review of the Harbor Freight 56" tool chest.

If we're talking about current KRL's I think the term "comparable sized" is unfair in this case. I've owned both the 44" and 56" HF boxes and no doubt they're a bargain. But put them next to a 24-30" deep KRL/6s/whatever and you gain an appreciation for the difference in scale. I continue to...

    Snap On Classic 78 value

That's just fine. I paid $2500 for a triple bank 96 so half that for a double is good. If you ever decide to trade or sell it in the future you shouldn't have any trouble making your money back or more.

What is the best deal or score you ever got on the Snap On Tools truck?

$250 for the 7 piece metric angle wrench set and metric half-moon wrench set together. $100 for the shallow 1/4" universal socket set $100 for the mid-length 1/4" socket set $2500 for a used-but-new KRA2423PJK I'm lucky because I see my guy on a Friday. Nothing makes deals quicker than...

Worth picking up this Hazet set just because?

I just became aware that our parts distributor at work is also a distributor for Hazet tools. I started looking through the prices and essentially the average knock off from retail price is 33%. This wrench set would run me just over $200 (US) ...

Almost on page 3, still lacking more pics of failed new C-man tools. They must be truly bulletproof.

Damn, was that adapter made out of cheese or are you at the gym every hour of the day?

Which brand aftermarket catalytic converter will last a long time?

I bought a catless 1990 Integra in CT awhile back. I bought the cheapest universal cat that Advance Auto sold and clamped the flanges from the test pipe the car came with onto it. Cost well under $100 if I remember correctly and passed emissions. Cali might be a different case entirely though.

    New Wrench Set Advice

For double box zero offset you're best off buying the Gearwrench set. It's identical to the one that matco sells for much less. Other than that Snap-On and Mac sell non-ratcheting versions. Personally I plan on buying the Gearwrench set eventually. I bought the 15 piece Williams SC set earlier...

    High clearance deep chrome sockets?

Why not just buy the one 27mm socket from Snap On that you needed. Or just buy the set from Williams.

old "tapered" sockets -- no brand name

If anything the "c" is an owners mark rather than a company. Not sure who makes them, sorry.

Your best buy off the snap on truck

I'd say about a month ago or so. I can't quite remember when that promo started but it must have been awhile back. I like waiting for unsold promo sets to get dusty before showing interest in them.

I've never seen a Snap-On box this old...

Huh, interesting. So compare that to a small modern Snap On combo and I think you'll find that it's considerably less. This is big news people. Snap On tools are actually getting cheaper, not more expensive  EDIT you know, reading that again I might have gotten that completely...

I've never seen a Snap-On box this old...

According to the link in the CL ad the K260 combo was exactly $90. No idea how much that amounts to in modern terms.

I'd offer him the $90 bucks that it cost brand new.
