I don't understand why you don't just reformat the old NVMe drive from the old computer and use it in the new one? Are you trying to keep the old computer alive still or is it too small for your needs? If the new computer recognized it and could read it then you are good to go.

That's interesting - the cameras I've dealt with auto detection is a function of the software - not of the camera. The camera is always on. I was dealing with higher end cameras though - not consumer level kits that utilize a DVR. We had separate software running of virtual servers.

If you don't need to network the detached garage then you may be able to get by with a good PTZ camera mounted on the house provided you have a sight line. You will be able to remotely zoom it and pan and tilt it (in case you don't know what PTZ stands for).
