Do the cheap belt sanders (for wood) have enough grunt for metal work? I was thinking I would try and make a belt grinder sometime. Something a little more substantial.

No idea, but very cool. I've never seen one like that before. I can't imagine the "gear" engaging in square sided holes would last too long though?

I spent a lot of time doing things the hard way with the wrong tools when I was younger. Having the right tool makes jobs so much easier.

Don't think I've ever needed one. usually get around things with extensions, u joint, crowfoot, etc. Probably useful once in a while (and from an era before that stuff existed).

I've never seen a 6" angle grinder before. Would 6" adhesive paper work? that's very common. They typically stick to a vinyl faced foam pad, maybe you could contact cement on 1/8" foam and vinyl to the existing pad. That will be less aggressive than a fiber disc though.

Those yellow tools were probably just left on a cat engine that got a rattlecan rebuild :bounce:

Double is sort of redundant, probably comes from combo being the predominant type now. Though I guess you could say box end and get a single ended box end... less ambiguous. eg

I was thinking a good way to make heavy gauge crimpers would be to get cheapy bolt cutters and grind a few different size circles in the teeth. But the nut idea is pretty smart

thirding the punch from broken end except probably use a piece of flat instead of a punch.

Kevlar works for knives, probably wouldn't stand up long to a grinder though. Maybe something wrong with your process needs adjusting :(

Yeah blackhawk is old. In the 80's stanley bought proto from IR, and blackhawk from.. litton I think. So that must be what the 1986 you found is about.

Looks like "DIN 1.6/5.6" You need a tool for the nut on the bulkhead? Looks like they have M9 thread, so a pin spanner kind of socket that will clear 9mm should work and then you need a tool that matches that looks something like this: Normally I'd not have any trouble finding tools for...

Seems to me all (most?) the hex sockets that are made here don't have that matte grey finish, that's import. Not sure why that would be. if oxide / oil is good enough for snap on and proto, whats up with the sintered looking grey finish on taiwanese hex bits. So they don't rust on the boat...

Those dinky little stones on 1/8" arbor don't last very long in general. I don't know what you're cutting, but for heavy removal you're better off with carbide burrs, they're more aggressive.
