I have successfully used heat and K2R to pull oil out of old milsurp gun stocks. You heat the wood with a heat gun, then apply K2R. The oil gets absorbed by the powder in the K2R. Admittedly, it would take several cans to do a workbench.

Rustoleum makes several clear coats. You can get the Automotive Clear at Walmart for less than $10. It worked better than I expected (for a race car).

It's definitely 4 conductor. Sorry, I have done 2 of these, but I can't quite recall the gauge. I want to say 14 This is mostly a special order SJ cord, but some HD's have it in stock (maybe). Just look closely at the cord on your hoist, and use the same gauge #.

I'm thinking you fixed it. 12v with the VOM seems to indicate that it is charged. Of course, we have no idea of the amp-hour capacity, but it's likely "whatever it was before the charger quit working". Which was acceptable.

I did the same thing, although over the years I have replaced the siphon tube, the hoses, the interior lights, and added a foot valve. The only HF part remaining is the cabinet. Which makes me wish I had bought a TIP sandblaster in the first place. Oh well.
