Above 1200 Sq/FT Hay barn conversion to auto shop - 30x40 pole barn project

7/18/18 - Another productive evening as I cut and installed the last four ceiling panels. Each of these was easy to put up, once cut. I used the shears this time to reduce the amount of cleanup. Each panel was about 18" wide, but since they were smaller and didn't have to wrap the knee braces...

Insulation for Metal Building - unfaced, 5 foot width

Hi all - I have two full rolls of unfaced insulation left over from my project. Much quicker than using the little rolls from the big box stores, plus you can do what you want regarding a vapor barrier since this is unfaced. I purchased from here...

Looks very different from the beginning already. Do I see a feline project manager in that one picture?

    Barn to Shop project.

I'll be following along! My hay barn was at least a steel building, but it has still been a labor of love to do the insulation, wiring and other stuff to turn it into my dream shop. But the sense of accomplishment is real - way better than tearing down and building new.

7/5/18 continued - Added insulation to the last wall section (the one with the window). 7/6/18 - Added wood beams to window and fuse box wall sections. My mom and aunt were in town for a couple days, and then my brother-in-law arrived which meant little progress for a few day until the holiday - but it wasn't zero progress! 7/1/18 - By night of July 1 I had managed to finish up the fuse box and put some framing around it. It will still need...

6/22 - 6/24/18 - I forgot to take pictures, but over the course of these nights I put up insulation on a wall panel, added the wood cross beams and added some wood framing around the interior side of the man door so that the metal panels would lay flat. I also sealed the openings in that door...

Metal can easily span 4', PBR panel is rated to span 6', but I'm using it on 10' spans with no problems. That's with 9.5" of batt on top of it too.

6/4/18 - Installed a 50 Amp RV outlet on the outside of the shop and ran the 6 gauge wire through a grommet back to near the fuse box. I have three polaris connectors that I'll use to junction that wire so I can have an indoor outlet as well that I will run to the center of the long wall for a...

Thanks! And yes, the carport space is great for things that I can store outside. Once I get the shop done, I'll be pulling the good parts off the Monte Carlo and moving the carcass out to the carport. It already is nice since it keep the worst of the weather and the summer sun off my tractor...
