    FireHouse 51

The ultimate irony. I share others sentiments in that this is the ultimate live/work/shop space. I look forward to more pics!

    Let's see your toolbox.

This is possibly the coolest thing I've seen on GJ so far (and there's a lot of cool things here!) I've done a few web searches and haven't been able to find anything about these, other than GJ. Where can I find more info or pics?

    Cordless drill dilemma

I don't know if this is the battery that you need, but I don't consider $22 to be horribly expensive, at least compared to $120 for a new drill. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002CSPCHE/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Cordless drill dilemma

I agree that the Ni-Cd batteries are crappy but when my Dewalt batteries died (2nd time...) I found replacements on Amazon for 1/3 of what they were at the hardware or tool store. As I recall, Batteries Plus price wasn't too far off, either. That is, if you can't bring yourself to buy a...

Which way you tighten torsion bar on garage door?

You're doing it with screwdrivers?! You MUST use the 1/2" bars made for tightening a torsion spring. This guy is a little OCD but has a lot of good info: http://www.truetex.com/garage.htm

Harbor Freight service cart on sale! 8/27-29

I finally got mine assembled and weighed it (less the packaging.) It came in at 155 lb. That's 45 lb more than the Craftsman top box full of tools that I'm planning to get rid of. At least now I won't have to carry it in and out of my trailer.

Anyone ever made carbon fiber parts?

Prepregs will cure sooner or later at room temp but an elevated post-cure is required to attain the advertised strength of the resin, 20-30% or more, depending on supplier. No post-cure is the same as making it out of FG.

    Switch Plate & Receptacle Covers

That stuff is like $90/yard! Real carbon fiber is like $40/yard.

Harbor Freight service cart on sale! 8/27-29

I'm planning to get one tomorrow so I don't have to manhandle my top box into my trailer on race weekends. How did you get one on sale today?

Anyone ever made carbon fiber parts?

I'm pretty sure they thought of that. They use various insulators to prevent the galvanic reaction you're alluding to.

Anyone ever made carbon fiber parts?

A hand laid CF part vs hand laid FG part will be lighter and stronger if all factors are equal. The key is keeping the resin content as low as possible. Vacuum bagging is mandatory (and easy) to reduce the resin content.

Anyone ever made carbon fiber parts?

CF and Kevlar have completely different properties. CF is going to crack like fiberglass, but it takes more force. Ever see an Indy car hit the wall? That's little sharp bits of CF you see all over the track. Kevlar won't crack, the resin matrix will but the kevlar will stay intact. Try...

Anyone ever made carbon fiber parts?

To the OP: please don't use this thread as a guide for making a CF part, way too much misinformation. Try here for a little bit more common sense: http://www.racingcomposites.net/ A CF part constructed using a given method, whether it be wet lay-up, vacuum bag, infused, or autoclaved, will not...

Need car lift to move car around garage

I may be wrong, but I don't see any disclaimer that says you can't use this with a car on the lift: http://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/accessories/portable-caster-kit.aspx

You could also try different aerators. They're cheap enough.

new kitchen faucet, now water comes out cloudy?

Try removing the aerator and see what happens. When we moved into our current house, a glass of water was always cloudy and we just lived with it. A year or two ago, I replaced the kitchen faucet and now the water comes out clear!
