Tech just starting out at a dealer

Don't beat yourself up too much. I'm not a tech but I made mistakes when I first started my job. It took a couple of years before I got the hang of things and I still make mistakes on occasion, even after 15 years. It only becomes a problem if you keep making the same mistake. I don't know...

I don't recommend it, but some people do it this way:

    Reciprocating Saw or Cut-off Wheel

I need to cut off some rusted suspension bolts and have the money to buy either a reciprocating saw or cut-off tool, but not both. Is one better suited for the job? Which one is more useful overall? Both would be pneumatic.

    Mobile Tool Boxes

I need to get a tool box with wheels that can hold 60-70lbs of tools (sockets, ratchets, screwdrivers, pry bars, wrenches, etc.) and will keep my tools in place while I'm wheeling the thing around. I was looking for something like this...

    pneumatic v. corded electric drill

I need to get a new drill. My cordless does not have the torque to remove a broken bolt that is rusted into a suspension knuckle. I'm looking at a 3/8" because of the confined space it will be used in. In general, will a pneumatic have more reverse torque or a corded electric?

    Tools for daughter's new apartment

Instead of the jumper cables and fix-a-flat, get her one of these: http://www.tooltopia.com/atd-tools-5926.aspx http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EJS9IM/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Only downside is they may be a bit heavy for her. You're literally lugging a spare car battery around. On the plus side...

How often do you use your 3/8 impact?

Just curious how often this is used. Do you still grab your 1/2 or has the 3/8 taken over the bulk of the load? Do you say to yourself, "Man, I wish I bought this thing earlier" everytime you use it? I'm debating getting one but I already have a 1/2 impact and 3/8 ratchet and so far, both...

Big oh ****, could use some help from GJ friends...

If that is what the OP was going to do, I agree it is unethical and people who do that should rot in hell. At least in my mind there is a big difference between being honest with a store and the store covering it for good will as opposed to lying to a store and getting it covered by saying "I...

Big oh ****, could use some help from GJ friends...

I'm not trying to get into a debate over this, but I don't think the OP is doing anything improper if he tells Sears exactly what happened and is honest about the situation. If Sears decides to cover it under warranty, it will be Sears' decision to cover something that, without question, is not...

Big oh ****, could use some help from GJ friends...

I'd go back to the store you bought it from. It's harder to tell someone to f-off when they're standing in front of you with a sad face than over the phone.

Big oh ****, could use some help from GJ friends...

I'd bring the broken parts back to the parts department, tell them in the most humble, "please take pity on me" voice I could muster, that the compressor fell when you were trying to install it and ask if the warranty covers damage due to brain farts. And bring the receipt so they see you just...

Craftsman Plastic Socket Holder Rail Studs.

They'll restock them It may take a couple weeks but they'll be back. A couple months ago I thought Sears discontinued them so I went around buying the last few packets I could find. A couple weeks later they're fully restocked. I was just there last weekend and they still had at least 8-9 on...

    Snap On Mini Tool Boxes

My god son's 8th birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him one of these mini snap-on tool boxes. The only place I know where to buy one is e-bay and they seem to go for $100 plus. Does any one know any other places I can buy them and where I can get them for a better price. Or if you have...

    Temporary Air compressor

It took a few weeks, but I found a 12 gal. 1 hp oil lubed air compressor on CL for $45 in brooklyn. CT seemed to have the most over priced stuff - some guys were asking more than what it cost new. Central NJ has a better selection and more realistic prices. I found the best prices and...

Tools needed by a entry level automotive technician

I don't turn wrenches professionally, but how many vehicles made today use SAE fastners? Ever since I tried to use a std. socket on a late 90s Ford Taurus and rounded off the lug nut, I began to suspect that most vehicles today, including U.S. vehicles, use metric fastners. If most vehicles...
