Great choice @hotbox! Did you end up restoring the RI? @Shiftless’s suggestion would have been very tempting to me, esp now that I have some experience in shipping for and buying a handful of vises. They are much more rare and expensive in my community. you got a great deal on the RI!

Awesome set up! It’s very clean. The 8” Yost looks great. I have a 6” Capri that is similar. Behind the bench.. you could take advantage of the wall space with a peg board or shelves.. but then it won’t be as clean looking.

I may have missed it if this has been mentioned, but have you considered finding old bowling alley lane material? Search on that in this forum and you’ll find some examples. I don’t have personal experience with it.. except for when I’ve thrown 12 lbs balls on them.

Mine is a 76’ per the date on the key. I wonder if the C0 didn’t get the improved swivel locking feature that the Bullets got. That still seems odd to me. It could also be, that mine is a mutt.. with parts from other Wiltons.

Thank you for the catalog pictures! I acquired the locking plate with teeth and centering bolt on the right in this picture from @autopts. It fits well and replaces the ring with no teeth that came with the vise (the one on the left). I don’t know what model the new one normally comes with now...

Thank you for offering! Indeed, I found a pair of chrome nuts at OSH. They are also a little thicker than stock, but work fine and look good.

Compared to a Wilton Bullet 5”.. my guess is the Cadet is less bulky as it is a mechanic’s vise, not the higher end machinist or combination vise.

I clean and polish up lots of rusted, stained, and pitted tools with a wire wheel on a bench grinder and it usually comes out great. I would try that or a 3M radial bristle wheel on a bench grinder if you have it. You can get small versions of both for a drill too.

Nice job! A 4.5” Cadet was my first real vise and I still think it’s a classic looking, solid tool. It’s great that the jaw shelf on yours is intact. I didn’t realize the jaw shelf on mine was cracked until many months later.
