I use an OldSchool Snap-on magnetic pickup tool. I use an older Blue-Point claw pickup tool when it is not feasible to use the Snap-on.

looks to be Snap-on KRA-250B. tote tray KRA-250A38 was originally included with the box.

you've got a great old workhorse. when your box was manufactured, KR series was king. I have a KR-557 bottom mated with KR-537B top (both 1978).

OldSchool made-in-USA Carhartt jacket is my favorite and I own several different variants. if a jacket is needed when I am treasure hunting in the wild I'll wear an older Dickies jacket because of the fluidity of movement it allows me when picking.

are you referring to a Snap-on KR series combo? a quality repaint may bring up value for some prospective buyers but is a dealbreaker for others. unless the metal is damaged by rust I would leave well enough alone. in the long run, a repaint will pretty much destroy any collectible value this...

just checked in my MAC Care Booklet/TOOL CHEST AND CABINET GUIDE from 1973 and it pictures the identical top chest to yours as being the MB-500.

my guesstimate is Model MB-500.

a bit of unsolicited advise is to simply preserve the integrity of the piece and do not over-clean or attempt to make the piece look like new again.
