Pole Barn Builders in Kansas City Area

I used Farm and Home Structures in Oct 2015. http://www.fhstructures.com I built a 50 x 72 x 14 just a few miles east of you. My coworker just had them build one in Peculiar. I had an Amish crew out of Jamesport. My coworkers crew was not. If you want to talk, pm me a phone number. I...

Why isn't Morton replacing it? For what you likely paid, you shouldn't be shy about escalating the issue.

Poles in ground vs on concrete posts

I have used old telephone poles to hang pipe gates on. The section that comes out of the ground is usually the best because the creosote settles in the bottom of the poles. One I used has a date nail from he 40's and it was solid and heavy. As far as columns, the company that built my barn...

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Picked this one up at an auction last week with some tools in it. Stamped 5-74. No dents but a couple extra holes in the lid. I have picked up a lock but no luck on a badge. Is there any where to source them? Does the Snap On sticker make it worth more?:)

    opinion on 2 wilton vices

If you are worried about the swivel base holding look for one with double lockdowns. Most of your better vises will have two. I personally would be hesitant about buying one that is a fixed base, but it may suit your needs fine. I think 5.5 or 6 inch jaws will be plenty big for what you need...

    Has anybody ever dealt with...

Sounds like nothing that 5 gallons of diesel fuel and a match can't take care of... If any of the other options don't work, you do have about 250k in equity. Perhaps you could get a separate home equity loan to help cover the gap of what you can spend out of pocket and the cost to build then...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

I think this is like the chicken and the egg argument. I totally see what you are saying but what I am saying is just because the OP backfilled, the poles do not need to be longer - because the ground was not originally level is why. The builder is claiming because there is backfill. If the...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

No not at all. I did exactly what you did. I am saying it shouldn't matter to the builder at all. I had a coworker not grade prior and had about a 30" drop in one corner on a site that eyeballed "level" to the builder. The builder made up the difference with mud boards then backfilled...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

Which means the length of the poles would be the same either way. My builder required the site to be within 2" of grade.

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

Yes one corner but not all the way around. Half the posts are at grade. What if he didn't backfill? There still will be an 18" gap in that corner from the mud board to the ground - thus the pole would be the same length irregardless.

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

Look at the plans and then tell me the same. Half of the building is at grade the other half is low, down to 18" in one corner. So if he didn't level the site there would be an 18" gap between the mud board at the low corner and the ground and at grade it would be flush with the ground. Poles...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

Once again, how does 18" of fill on top change the ground where the poles are being placed? It is still the same amount of virgin ground whether the fill is there or not. Grade did not change. The poles should go in the same distance from grade. I am sure the OP wants a level floor so it...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

Look at the plans the OP attached. How does that change the length of the posts from the original plan? He didn't change grade just added fill to the low areas. Which is what you would do to have a level floor. The only difference is the builder has to dig through 18" or less of fill for a...

    Dirt work 40x60 Pole Building

So you have 18" of fill in one corner which was compacted by the dozer. I don't get how that would require the poles to be longer? Was he not going to build a level building to begin with? If anything it should save him money by not having to add extra mud boards on the bottom along those...
