    You could also try cutting them down with a dremel cutoff wheel. I had the same problem , sometimes they smash down but not evenly. as long as it is one of its my own projects, so as long as it holds i'm fine with it being crookedly smashed. I also use a roll pin punch instead of the supplied one.

    I like to start mine with a center punch and use a rolling(circular) motion while hitting it. It helps to start the rolling over process.

    The M.R.&M Co punch is for tubular rivets. It cuts the flower petal and pushes them down. Look at the back of the rivets on all most all leather toolbgs or pouches and you will see the pattern it creates. That one looks a little worn down.

    They would be useful for the larger gauge concrete mesh and the chairs used underneath them. Also useful in areas where sparks might be a problem. Some places require a fire watchmen, extinguisher, fire watch for an hour after words, hot work permit.

    Look at Pocketweez. They fold up( I carry mine on my work keyring) and are very sharp. The pointy front works great for digging out.

    They were called EZ hook. I have one but the coating is orange. I think home depot or ace hardware used to sell them. Not much help but at least you have a name to start with.
