    Craftsman Club Days

So what's the verdict on those new slim-line ergo Professional ratchets? Do they work as good as they look? i was playing with one, and it felt better in my hand than any other wrench i've tried, but there are so many things i need more than another socket wrench right now... ...dave

    Craftsman Club Days

Yeah, Craftsman Club is a mess.... i got a catalog last year, a calendar this year, but have never gotten a card or a sale flyer. Sears/Craftsman bugs me the same way that domestic car manufacturers bug me, though... even if something is on sale when you buy it, you always get the feeling that...

OK what are you guys getting (want) for Christmas ?

What i want most of all is for my house to sell so that i can buy the property i'm looking at with a 1500sq-ft cinder-block shop :( Aside from that, i need a new rechargeable drill, a compression gauge, a tubing bender, and if i get the shop, an engine hoist... ...dave

    Plans for building garage cabinets

Depends... do you want to make them out of fiberboard, or real wood? With the way wood prices are, you're not going to save enough money to justify it unless you value your time at 0 (enjoy the work or the learning experience). i think i have $50 materials into a similar-sized cabinet (IIRC, 24...

Tell us your technical skill level

i'm another one somewhere between basic and full... i've taken motors apart, but not put them back together :lol_hitti (anybody need a cylinder head for a Cadillac 390? i've got six...), swapped transmissions and steering boxes, done freeze plugs and bodywork and a drum-to-disc conversion...

Looking for Feedback on Garaeg Plan

Craig- glad you found the comments helpful. i'm not much good at thinking of plans, but boy can i poke holes in them! This also plays into another strength, which is spending other people's money! Not sure what height you're looking at making your workbench, or whether you're buying or...

Looking for Feedback on Garaeg Plan

A few thoughts... What is the big red & silver thing at the top-center? i'm guessing sandblast cabinet? A ladder will make it difficult to put anything into storage. Maybe drop-stairs, and continue the storage area over your workbench? The area around the Buick seems pretty tight- do you plan...

3/4 drive sockets and automotive stuff

i've got a 3/4" breaker bar and one socket for it (whatever the rear wheel nut is on a '62 Caddy), that's it.. might could use another for the torsion bars on my Chrysler, but aside from that i can't think of any time i've felt the need for it. They are shiny and very impressive to look at...

    Another storage & workbench source

i wonder if those are steel, or just particleboard with a really expensive paint job? i know the rolling toolchest thing has metal sides, but the standing cabinets look like pb. ...dave

    Large storage idea

That is interesting. For the amount it probably costs (if you have to ask, you can't afford it) and the work that needs to be done to the wall to install it, i'd probably just buy a shed. i'm lazy that way  ...dave

whats the most used tool in your toolbox?

Hand tool: either my 3/8" stubby flex-handle socket wrench, or a bit-style screwdriver Electric: Heavy-duty DeWalt corded drill (8 amps, i think?) Air: Probably my Craftsman tire inflator  Other: LED headband light! i don't know how i lived so long without one ...dave

    Thumbwheel Ratchets?

:+1: i picked one of those up last time i ordered stuff from toolwarehouse... i haven't found an essential use for it yet, but i've used it a couple of times for bolts that you can't reach to finger-tighten, but are so low-resistance and low-torque that it gets annoying spinning a full-size...

    Swapping doors

If you add an inch of material to the side of the door where the knob is, how will the catch on the knob work? You'd have to move the whole lock-set over by an inch, which would mean relocating it to a different part of the door (vertically) so that you don't have a huge oblong hole... PITA. i'd...

    Making driveway 2 feet wider...

They may also decide to jump down your throat over the pavers. Our HOA *spit* would. One should never assume that just because something makes sense it will match the law of the land. ...dave

    Craftsman Reflex Wrench?

i'd exchange them. i've can't think of any time that i've come across a situation where a small adjustable wrench was the right tool for the job. A good set of sockets and combination wrenches are a lot less likely to break stuff in the long run. ...dave

    Garage update pics part 3

Funny... Connecticut hasn't had a major hurricane since, what, the 1950s? Meanwhile, we don't require that in coastal SC, and we about got levelled in '89, caught two tropical storms/borderline Cat 1s last year... Ah well. Looks like it'll be a great space! ...dave

Watch out for the GARAGE POLICE!!!!!

See, to me, other people's rights end at my property line. If i can't build what i want on the land that i paid for, THEY'RE trampling on MY rights (and i'm paying for the privilege... dummy). Now, if i started operating a toxic waste dump that gave all my neighbors cancer, they'd have a right...
