(Seattle, WA) I want more electrical service. Where do I start, and what is good?

Got it, that makes sense. I recall some verbiage in one of the stack of documents signed during the purchase. That’s a great point. The oven would likely be especially taxing, given that if we had A/C, we would use the oven more frequently in the summer months (right now we minimize prolonged...

(Seattle, WA) I want more electrical service. Where do I start, and what is good?

In most townhouse construction in Seattle proper, a 6,000 Sq ft. Single family home plot is converted into 4 - 8 townhouses. Some have HOAs set up but the majority do not. The outskirts of the city and suburbs have larger townhouse “neighborhoods” that are common elsewhere in the country.

(Seattle, WA) I want more electrical service. Where do I start, and what is good?

Yep - I'm with Seattle City Light (SCL). Looks like SCL has a load calculator embedded within the permit application. Appreciate you putting dollar signs on the upgrade cost - Helps me understand the general cost threshold. It'll probably be more efficient for the electrician to do the work...

(Seattle, WA) I want more electrical service. Where do I start, and what is good?

Appreciate all of the thoughtful replies, everyone. Here are the details I know: Don’t have a load calculation yet. This is probably a dumb question but is there a specific format that I should be following? Generally speaking, this is how I was going to approach it: - Map out all...

    Vertical rise garage doors

This sounds like a vertical dock door at a warehouse. I’ve used some really fast doors... would be really cool to have one at home but I imagine they they’re speedy. Example towards of the bottom of this page: https://www.andersenmaterialhandling.com/products/warehouse-equipment/dock-door/

I want to prevent electrical fires, not get blazed.

(Seattle, WA) I want more electrical service. Where do I start, and what is good?

We purchased our first place earlier this year, a townhouse in Seattle. Love the the layout, size, and location, but it only has 100A service ... unfortunately quite common in our area. We would like to add a three-zone mini-split A/C next year, and add in a fast charger in the garage. Plus, I...

Above 1200 Sq/FT From Urban Pie Factory To Mountain Barn

I can relate on both fronts... just at a much smaller scale. My little garage refresh turned into a three-month affair when I initially planned for about a month. Our place has has some weird quirks that we were willing to pay extra for, such as a 12' wide by 9' tall garage door in our...

Above 1200 Sq/FT From Urban Pie Factory To Mountain Barn

Really love everything about your place. From the bare stud rebuild to the La Pavoni espresso machine, I can tell that you never take the easy way out. Between the low-key exterior, fantastic rooftop deck, and horizontal cedar siding, it also feel very west coast. Speaking of low key - what’s...

Yes, definitely! I try to minimize how frequently cars are turned... kept the Miata for 5 years; hoping the A3 is good for the same. Thank you! The e-tron has a little hatch that opens up with a “soft-open” mechanism by a small latch hidden within the rings. It also locks itself along with the...

Really appreciate the walkthrough; it paints a much better picture of what you are able to achieve. I’m always intrigued on the “grail” accoutrements in any hobby or trade, even hobbies that are not my own. I watched a few videos on the track saw and the Domino, and can see how cabinetry and...

What’s the “woodworking for dummies” description on the advantages of the Festool ecosystem? Before reviewing this thread I have never heard of the brand. The 30,000’ view is that it’s a lot of stuff in fancy green colors that costs a lot of green.

The Miata has been our only car for the last 5 years. Purchasing the house earlier this year and getting a dog a few months back made the Miata no longer suitable for what we need. Listed out all of our requirements, and landed on an A3 e-tron: Since it's a plug-in hybrid rather than full...

Thank you! I'll probably make a few small changes here and there, but hopefully nothing substantial enough for an update for a while. :)

Done. Finished painting yesterday, mounted the last three shelves today, and finally have the garage available for parking again. As a reminder, here's where we started: Sometime in the future, maybe once the rains come, I'll focus on better organizing everything on the shelves. Right...

Another smallish update. Was able to hang the Paint Shelf, get some more stuff off the floor, and start the wall repair. Repairing the wall entailed replacing the insulation, cutting some 2' x 2' drywall repair patches to size and screwing them down, taping, and putting down the first layer of...

I have power! Rigid tubing (EMT?) would have looked nicer, but I paid for the job by the hour, so I'm okay with flexible wiring. I'll put some effort into adding fittings and straightening out the the runs... sometime. Four outlets total were installed on a new 20A circuit. I initially planned...

Checking in from the westside. Lovely shop and impressive metal; especially like the 911. Appreciate how candid you are with the uh... "opportunities" that you learn. I know I've had my fair share of goof-ups, so it's always reassuring to see that I'm not alone in messing up.

Hired out the plumbing, and it was fixed today. Seemed like a simple fix, but it would have taken me a weekend of research and procurement to make sure that I didn't screw up the job. I'll keep a fan running for a few days before repairing the drywall to make sure that the fix holds and ensure...

    Below 265 SQ/FT Seattle Townhouse Small Garage - 15'9" D x 9'11" W

Saw some unexpected moisture on the ground this morning. Not a puddle, just damp concrete. I remembered one of the studs being in a funny location last weekend but dumbly soldiering on and drilling away. I cut out a small hole in the drywall to feel what was hidden behind, and sure enough, it...
