    Corolla Drum Brake/Spring Tool Question

Some small Japanese cars use a U-shaped spring on the pins not the 1/4 turn coil spring. Not sure what's on a '99 Corolla, but I've gotten by with just regular pliers in a pinch. I do love the tool he uses in that video. Mine is similar to his on one end and has a pin with a notch to hook onto...

    Compressor Choice Quincy or Curtis

I'd go with the Quincy, but I'm sure either would serve you well. The after-cooler may be an advantage in keeping the air dry when blasting. Blasting with wet air can be a nightmare. I searched but couldn't see the after-cooler in any online pictures. It may just be fins on the tube between the...

    Air lines

It's probably worth the trouble to take the air off the top of the line and add some slope with low point drains. I plan on using 3/4" sweated copper pipe in my shop.

Anyone Seperate One Stall from a Triple Garage?

Goff's was the place I dealt with for the curtain. They are in WI, and went out of their way to find me demo stock at an affordable price.

Anyone Seperate One Stall from a Triple Garage?

I'm going to use a shop curtain to get myself a separate work area in the one car bay of my 3 1/2. It's about $400 for a one or two piece 25' x 9' vinyl with a window and a track. I can't recall the name of the company right now, but the had lots of show and sample stock which could be had a a...

    Auto AC question

Some VW use a variable displacement compressor. It makes it very easy to overcharge if trying to partial charge. It's best to charge variable displacement compressors a full charge by weight after evacuation. The accumulator/drier is the one on the bottom. I'd say the one on the top is a muffler.

What do you use to wash your tires?

Nobody's mentioned it, but the only time I've had issues with cleaners etching the wheels is when the wheels/brakes were still hot from driving the car. I've never had an issue on any type of cool wheel using Bleachwhite or SG. The best cleaner I've found to brighten bare Al is S-100 or Honda...

How does foam compare to fiberglass batting with regards to noise reduction?

    Building too seriously

I can tell you that if you live in a colder climate, you must maintain some level of warmth to prevent rusting of precision tools (Mills, lathes, micrometers...). 15-20F above ambient temperature is typically enough. It would be wasteful not to install some minimum level of insulation in this...

    16' Header Fishplate

Picked up the plate, and there are only 10 holes total. Four are 1.5" from edge (bottom) and six are on the other edge 1.5" from that edge (top). Essentially the holes are on 48" centers! The top edge has extra holes, so the holes are staggered on the top and bottom. I did some reading online...

    16' Header Fishplate

Thanks for the replies. It's within 1/2" of the original height from 1 1/2"sag. I'm hoping to get 1/4"-3/8" over the original height in about a weeks time. There is a 3' 4x4 on the top of the jack at the header. For sure on the impact! It's getting hot here, and I don't plan on doing 40+ lag...

    16' Header Fishplate

I spoke with the local structural steel place. He was very familiar with doing this job. He suggested 3/8"x11" plate. He will cut it to size and drill the holes for $250. I ordered it and have a screw jack under the header. I thought about notchin the header for C-channel turned into the header...

    Lending Tools to Your Neighbor

I do loan tools but keep after them 'till they come home. Most of the time I come with the tools. The one that burns me up is my car trailer. One guy was borrowing it to pick up cars from auctions. He brought it back with broken lights and refused to accept responsibility. He even trashed a few...

    16' Header Fishplate

My 15 year old garage is 24'x36' with a 9/12 pitched roof (gabled on short sides). It has a 9' door and a 16' door on the long side. There is no floor over the 16' door, but the header (2x12 plywood sandwich) has sagged about 1.5". I know it's not an ideal repair, but I intend to lag bolt a...

Lights mounted to inside of garage door

Has anyone mounted lights to the inside of an overhead garage door. I have 8' tall doors. When they are open, they block a bunch of my lights on the ceiling, and the garage gets much darker. I was thinking that some lights mounted to the inside top of the garage door may make it brighter when...

    Transair compressed air pipe systems

We used a lot of Legris fittings at my last job. The quality was great, but the parts were much smaller than what you are looking to use. I'm interested in costs. What's cost of: piping per 1/2" diameter length, 90 degree fittings, t-fittings, and threaded connections for the Milton fittings?

    What are your thoughts

Sounds like a beautiful shop. It may not be a factor for most, but a car trailer is extremly difficult to get through an 8' door. My car trailer is slightly wider than 8'. It's nice to be able to put the trailer in the garage when needed.
