SK 4498 Spark plug socket set.

They are not able to be removed. They are one piece and are kind of similar to an impact swivel, in that they don't have as great a range of motion as a universal. I have that same set, and its well made and I like the fact that it has a magnet but I like the ones that are detachable a little...

$300-$400 scan tool for professional mechanic

Do the 300-400 dollar ones do mode 08? I've only used the verus and solus so I have no idea. Doesn't seem like it would be any better than an elm327 unless it could control outputs.

    Piercing Probe

Practically zero, it's just another one of the BS old wives tales perpetuated in the automotive industry... like the one that brake rotors stored vertically will warp, that one always makes me ROFL

very fine tooth ratchets any good?

Most of the fine tooth ratchets are actually stronger because they engage a greater area. Not saying that's the case for all but I never understood the perception that coarse tooth ratchets are stronger.

Why oh why do people recommend these tools???

I agree with what the others are saying. There's a place for them. The long arms on my jeep have a 46mm jam nut. I'm NOT buying a 46mm combo wrench. $$$$.

How much do you use 1/2" drive sockets?

I use the right tool for the job, so all the time 1/2- for mostly suspension stuff 3/8- most commonly used, use them everywhere 1/4 for small under hood stuff. If somethings giving me trouble I reach for the next size up.

Hansen trays but they're a little big and have extraneous sizes, at least on the small end of the 1/2's and 3/8's

    Kobalt vs. Craftsman

IMHO if you have a choice between one or the other I would get all 12pt. They are more versatile. The off corner engagement makes 12 pt almost as good as the six.

    S-K turbosocket guidance

Or if there's enough meat on the head of the fastener use chisel and hammer, and hit it perpendicular to the radius of the head in the direction you want to go. Works very well for low torque fasteners.

I got a 24 x 48 piece of 1/4" plate from a place that sells remnants for 68 dollars, and it's been more than adequate for my amateur use.
