Garage Essentials for a Newbie Millennial

Yes this is a must! Even get a few and put them is separate locations. A friend of mine almost burned down his brand new house when a snowmobile he was working on caught fire in his garage. Luckily he noticed in time and was able to pull the sled out to burn up in his driveway. The only fire...

Garage Essentials for a Newbie Millennial

I am in a similar situation to you and just purchased my first home with an attached 2 car garage at 31 yo. Thankfully I grew up being taught how to do a variety of things but seldom needed to actually practice anything home repair related or had a full set of tools. It can be frustrating and...

    HVAC Screwing

I understand your point but I really wish people would read the real story behind the coffee incident, it was a legit lawsuit... A 79 year old woman received 3rd degree burns over 1/3 of her body requiring skin grafts from a cup of d@mn coffee... I just hate that the story has become the...

    HVAC Screwing

This does not apply to the OP's situation at all. He was not trying to buy the parts cheaper and then have a tech do the install. He was doing the work himself and simply needed a basic part. His situation is the equivalent of needing to change the brakes on your car and when you go into NAPA...

Where did my anode rod go??

Any chance the rod was removed before installation (assuming you didn't do the install)? If you have a softener it is common to remove the rod to prevent odors in the water.

Stupidest ways you temporarily misplaced a tool while working on something?

After working on my car a few years ago I couldn't find my cell phone, and figured I misplaced it in the house somewhere. After a full day of looking I walked out and popped my hood and there it was sitting on top of the radiator. Luckily it was wedged in there and didn't fall out on my 50...

    Hillside drainage concerns

Without seeing the area its tough to make a specific recommendation but yes you should put in a footing drain at a minimum. Depending on the amount of runoff from the hill side you might want to grade away from the building to create a "V" essentially and put in a few yard drains to collect the...

What should I fill a hole with

I think I would dig back to the other expansion joint and line the drive with blocks to create a curb, then just fill with dirt and re-plant grass. Level the area with the sand you have and tap in the bricks. If you go this route you might want to mortar in the blocks so they don't come loose...

First time home buying journey so far..

Stubbing in for a possible future additional will only add value if the potential buyer has plans to put on an addition. Good luck convincing someone of the added value who has no intentions of adding on. I am not sure how common it is in Boston for 2nd story additions but it is not very...

HELP Where to get stamped plans DESPERATE

Yes it absolutely can be done, but the majority won't, and even if they do you will basically be paying them to do a full design anyway. The idea of pulling an engineer's name off of a directory and walking in with a set of plans to be reviewed and stamped is not very realistic.

    Hello from MD

Just a month ago I purchased my first home which came with a large attached 2-car garage. I have known of this site for years but would only stop to lurk once in a while to drool over everyone else' garages while I lived the apartment life. Figured I would finally join to get some ideas on how...

HELP Where to get stamped plans DESPERATE

As a licensed NY professional engineer I can tell you that you will be hard pressed to find an engineer willing to put their stamp on someone else's plan, it is not worth the liability. If you do find one willing to do so I would be skeptical of their work. There are plenty of prefab shed and...
