Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

Here's the header with the jack & cripple studs installed , just got to plate the 12"sidewalls and the space above the header with some plywood. The header is a couple of 2x8's with 1/2" ply filler, nailed & glued. I'm thinking of adding some 'horizontal studs' to brace/fill in the sidewalls...

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

I was concerned about the stability of this section so before plating it with plywood I ran a couple of tapcons on each side, there's a 1/2 " anchor bolt in the sill hiding behind the double 2x4 as well.

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

I have no plans to drywall or otherwise finish the the interior, but I was thinking of adding a third stud for strength/rigidity.

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

That's good, I've been checking this out as well and it seems that most times a 2x6 is to provide the needed space for siding/drywall/furring strips etc. I thought at first it was structural for the track but most times a 2x4 set perpendicular to the studs around the opening will give a place...

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

Here's an approach shot, shows the layout better. I hadn't considered the door jamb issue before as I intended to use a sliding barn door at first but it seems to me that it would reduce the chance of rot if the jamb was raised a few inches anyway...right?

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

I'm close to framing the door now and have two questions, #1 is a 2x6 really needed for a shed garage door frame? And #2, regardless of what size of jamb does it matter if it stops 5 inches clear of the slab? Here in my photo you can see the footing where my door jamb will be resting on the...

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

I now understand that a 9' wide door is too wide, and even an 8' door is pushing the limits . So if I ran what would be a 'full width'10 foot 2x8 header (glued/nailed &properly packed out)with jack studs as usual and filled in with a 16" wall on either side of the garage door it should be Ok if...

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

Yah, thanks for your input & the link, that's handy. I left the door detail out of my drawings to the building inspector on purpose expecting a query but got none. My initial plan was to install two 'barn door' type rolling panels on square tracks but i felt the length of track that was to be...

Fitting a 9' wide door in a 10' wide shed?

Hi all. I'm building a 10x20 foot shed on a concrete pad and got an old 8' roll up door for nothing. Now I'm almost to the point of fitting the door & have seen a some real nice 9' wide doors for under $100. My question is are their any pitfalls building a rough-in this close to the actual...

The vent exceeds the 2" horizontal minimum required in Canada by 1" so the second tech was right as it turns out.

Here's a photo of the vent arrangement the first tech thought was too close to the soffit. The second guy said 'It's clear of the soffit, leave it it's fine'

My first choice showed up, looked around & said 'slide a sleeve over that tubing' and he'll replace the valve. Sleeve is on, just have to deal with the stickers/documentation.He said the other guy should read the rule book before waving it around. Here's a photo of the sleeve. I screwed a piece...

Yah, I'm pricing some 2" pvc pipe & fittings for the soffit deal, that's easy enough, & my first choice hvac guy's coming by today.

He listed code numbers by the defects, some I found online and were what he claimed, while others were general 'best practices' listings.

Yup, I called my first choice again, no answer. Then when driving by his shop I saw him pulling out & flagged him down. He was on a job but said he'd stop by & take a look. I think there's a reason why he's so busy & the other guy was sitting by the phone...

Yes he found a faulty gas valve, there was nothing wrong with function until the valve broke, I think he was more concerned with the lack of mandated tests/conversion documents/tags not labelled or kept with the furnace. There's a label on my house furnace with the tech's license number and...

Thanks Jackfre, I've found the install manual for my furnace online, it doesn't specify soffit/eaves minimums and the few Cdn codes I can find online don't specify either but I'm finding other references of 18" minimums for exhaust to ventilated soffit. I can make the 18" if I remove the...

My 90% propane furnace quit so I called a HVAC co. in to repair it ( I'm in Ontario) turns out that the gas valve is busted. That's just the start... The tech red tagged the furnace for 5 issues, 2 of which he has me on, but the other 3 I have to wonder about. The furnace was installed in...

    Found an old Delta Bandsaw....

Ya, most dual purpose machines are like that. But compared to the stuff coming out of China....I plan on using it for domestic duty only, just some angle iron and so on.
