Here's the header with the jack & cripple studs installed , just got to plate the 12"sidewalls and the space above the header with some plywood.The header is a couple of 2x8's with 1/2" ply filler, nailed & glued. I'm thinking of adding some 'horizontal studs' to brace/fill in the sidewalls...

I was concerned about the stability of this section so before plating it with plywood I ran a couple of tapcons on each side, there's a 1/2 " anchor bolt in the sill hiding behind the double 2x4 as well.

I have no plans to drywall or otherwise finish the the interior, but I was thinking of adding a third stud for strength/rigidity.

That's good, I've been checking this out as well and it seems that most times a 2x6 is to provide the needed space for siding/drywall/furring strips etc. I thought at first it was structural for the track but most times a 2x4 set perpendicular to the studs around the opening will give a place...
