    8-Point Sockets

I have a few 8-pt. sockets from the '60s out of an old Craftsman set my Granddad had--I thought they were mostly for square bolts and nuts. Recently, I was ordering a couple Williams sockets to replace Kobalt ones I'd recently lost out of my 1/4 kit (for US-made and the same price as imported...

Free fill dirt loaded onto trailer

One of my neighbors has a dump truck. That tends to be my answer for anything requiring bulk materials...

What to do with tools that just don't sell?

I have a corded Black and Decker Industrial. For basically everything but pruning, it outclasses all the consumer-grade stuff (as I have to have that one awful Craftsman for pruning--the Dewalt 18V croaked and I'm far out of reach from extension cords). Apparently, when Black and Decker...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Nice! Recently I assembled some cheap Walmart furniture (made in Malaysia) to replace some old stuff ill-suited to my needs that I had in the bedroom (a folding table serving as a PC desk, and a bathroom TP cabinet serving as a TV stand in a narrow corner). Despite the directions calling for...

    Show your new tool arrivals

Decided to start doing some shopping out of the Classifieds here this month. These all came from @yatg here for a very good price. Pexto (Peck, Stowe, and Wilcox) 5315 ratcheting brace. Probably slated for a collection tool, but it's likely going to live in the "upstairs" box in my closet...

    Throwing Away Tools

Same here. The awl is a tool I can never find. I have two Felo, at least one or two Hyper Tough, and one "KR Professional Tools" out of a cheap screwdriver set--plus my favorite Ullman carbide scriber. Usually, none of them are handy when I need them, and end up using the leather punch blade...

    Throwing Away Tools

And that's how I ended up finding most of my lost Hot Wheels cars as a kid--smashed to bits thanks to getting ran over by a mower.

    Kobalt Tool-Check

I just found out about this myself. Lowe's shows having three in stock at my local store, so I'm getting one. Figure this will be good for a lot of hobby and small engine stuff--as it's got most bits and sockets I actually use on those.

Todays Habitat grab, 5" Record vise

Awesome score! I would also have gladly paid that $90 for a decent vise secondhand. People want stupid money for vises around here--including rusted/dirty examples of the $20 Harbor Freight vise (speaking of that--it's my main basement vise...). Nearest Habitat from me is about an hour-hour...

Proto Bet'R Grip Screwdriver part numbers

Are Urrea ones welcome here? I've got a couple of those from my local mine supply, as well as several of the original Protos from my Granddad. PS: they're still great in the hand, and inexpensive. Arguably, one of my favorite handles. Thus, I plan to finally buy a complete Urrea set. Shouldn't...

Old, Fat and Tired Electrical Question

I'd recommend finding an old, all-steel milk crate (not those with a plate bottom--but heavy wire like the rest of the crate). Might put a foam kneeling pad on it for comfort. I've found these allow me to do low work comfortably. I might be young, but knee pain seems to be hereditary problem...

Looking for assistance with identifying a part that may be from my John Deere x570

And then I was wondering why my Deere dealer had a whole shelf of Loctite on a peg in the showroom.

    Throwing Away Tools

If it were me, I'd probably end up sticking it up on some shelf in the shop. For some odd reason, I've got a plastic zebra from when I was a kid on a high shelf in mine.

    Throwing Away Tools

And my loaners. All my good sockets go on rails, or the original kits/cases if I have them. Granddad always took home the old mining bit boxes (Carmet, a former employer repainted ammo cans, while Carboloy and Hughes used molded plastic), and I tend to just dump 'em in those.

    Throwing Away Tools

Yep. That's why honestly, I don't want to get rid of that box of sockets. There will often be times when I have to reach in that box and find a size that I lost the "good" version of inexplicably.

    Throwing Away Tools

Same here. I've got a 3/8 ratchet from the '70s currently in the system. I've got tons of ratchets, but figured it was worth a shot if I could get it repaired or replaced. Really need to call my relative and ask him if the Mac guy said anything about the status. Been a little over a month...

    Throwing Away Tools

Been thinking about doing that with some decent, but mostly unused tools I have (plus spare sockets). A buddy of mine does a lot of work on his old, pretty poor condition vehicles (almost all '90s and early '00s), and has one large hand box and a couple socket sets. That's really it. Plus, a...

    Throwing Away Tools

I've got a large number of China/Taiwan (before the latter was any good....) sockets, wrenches, and screwdrivers that ****, and am seriously considering doing the same. However--I've recently found that almost all the "MADE IN JAPAN" tools of the '70s and '80s were cheap, but VERY decent. I've...

    Craftsman V-series clearance

I can remember the Applied website having a big banner for Craftsman Professional for many years. Seem to recall that was the industrial supply company's main brand of tools at the time. However--they'd basically be competing against Proto, which if I'm not mistaken, also has a bunch of...
