Take a listen to my compressor

Radiant Heat and Drains in slab

Thx fix until broke (BYW-May be my favorite name ever!). Feeling pretty silly. Had the drains taped since pouring and honestly never looked at them... went out and checked and they have (ready for it?) a p trap! Feeling a little sheepish here! Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal...

Radiant Heat and Drains in slab

Installed my radiant pex already. Slab is 5" thick with rebar 2'OC and pex-al-pex stapled to 2"XPS under the slab. Have four - 2" floor drains that are gravity fed to exits on back of shop. Do I need to be concerned about cold air transfer to building? Was considering putting one way valves...

Metal roof install. Is this acceptable?

Double Lock is a standing seam metal roof, where the rib is bent down over itself a second time to create a permanent watertight seal. Yes, I do double lock roofing, but generally they are limited to bay windows and porch areas. The process is very labor intensive. I have seen machines that...

Metal roof install. Is this acceptable?

The Corten siding you installed is a pretty specialized product. I have never personally installed it, but looking at their website, it looks pretty cool! The cheapest line I install is a 29 gauge galvalume product that I typically use on barns, sheds, and a lot of garages around here. I...

Metal roof install. Is this acceptable?

I am a roofing contractor by trade. We install probably 20-30 metal roofs and 60-70 shingle roofs a year. I would never suggest installing metal over shingles. For starters, the metal never lays flat - and therefore telegraphs every deviation in the home. The foundation of your home now...

    Looking for a flagpole

I would wait another day. The flagpole isn't going to harm the concrete in any way, but if you have a strong wind the "pulling" could create a stress on the pour and cause your concrete to crack.

Need Help Lighting up a 40x60x16

For dimming purposes… There needs to be an 18 gauge wire ran to each light (I am using speaker wire that I had left over from my media room) that is connected to a dimmer… The dimmer has nothing to do with the power for the lighting… It controls the dimming function of each light separately...

    Shop condensation!

And thus my point. We all know the answer here, but if you’re not going to heat/cool the space then air movement is the next best solution in my mind Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

    BloomingtonMike's 40X64X16

Just finished the radiant tubing last month and had the flooring installed in my 40x60x16. Power meter was installed last week so I can start the real work of outfitting the shop. Your build has been fun to monitor and model. I modeled the radiant system off of yours and have all the parts...

    Radiant Heat costs

You’re awesome! Once the slab is up to temperature I can’t imagine the radiant system working much… Anybody who has radiant know what the run times are on average? Sent from my iPhone using The Garage Journal mobile app

    Radiant Heat costs

Just finished constructing a 40x6016 pole barn in Central Kentucky with a 14x24 extension on the back. The slab is 5" thick, and I installed 10 loops 245' long (253' of you count the tubing coming out of the slab to the manifold). After much research, I have chosen to use Mike Bloomington's...

I just completed construction on a 40x60 shop myself and installed pex in the floor when I poured. 10 loops of 250-270' of piping. Have the manifold and a 27kw on demand heater already but am designing the hydronic system and curious of an optimal design. Keep this thread alive and post any...
