Actual proof one brand is superior when it comes to sockets?

You are 100% right. Good tools will last a life time. If you only get 10 years out of them you are one hell of an abuser of tools. I bought a set of Fleet sockets 50 yeas ago. I used them in machine shops rebuilding machinery. Used them on the farm repairing tractors, I have used them in...

Old Baldor Grinder on CL - What's your guys opinions?

A grinder is not wroth a phase converter. You loose about one third of the HP rating when using a converter. Balder make the best grinders on the market. $100 is a very good deal. 3 phase is hard to sell. If it were 220 I would make the drive. I don't mind a good drive. I stop at places...

    pipe fitting size id gauge

Pipe threads are standard for the size of pipe. Not much to remember if you know the size. You can have different flair nut sizes and the same size tubing. I grew up on the farm and working in machine shops. After using drills, taps, nuts and bolts you know the size by looking at them...

Any business can print and distribute coupons in any form and manner they want? Your point is? I am on several of their mailing list and I get their E mail. I am getting 25% and 20% coupons all the time. I never use them. I have seen the 20% coupons both ways. Just hang on what you want will...

Tell us your tool 'Abuse' story's.

I am not so sure everything posted is tool abuse. Sometimes the cost of the job requires using up tooling. In the machine shop drills, taps, mills, tooling for lathes and other machinery are all part of the cost of doing business. Modifying or doing what it takes to get the job done is part...

Does anyone make a high torque 90 degree impact wrench/driver attachment?

You are a hoot. Really. You could have gotten the job done with hand tools in the time you have spent on this thread. You give a new meaning to the word Lazy. LOL The job is not free if you need to spend money. Your labor might be free but the job isn't. It is no wonder no one...

    Torque Wrench "Cracks"

The new HF electronic was tested and did very well. It kept its accuracy better than most major brands. Rember to set it to 0 when finished. It will stretch and not keep its accuracy.

Can somebody explain the Wilton fetish to me please?

You never beat on a vice. Only a dolt would do it! Get an anvjl and blacksmiths vice if you need to pound or or fet a huge cheap 4 in 1 vice. They are great for pounding. They hold up well. I you beat on a good vive I would not want you working on anything I own!

Can somebody explain the Wilton fetish to me please?

I forgot one thing. I was a tool maker at one time. We made dies. We had some very large round dies and we had to put them in a vice to hand grind and polish them. The dies require a lot of hand work. Cheap vjces would work their way loose and the work would move or fall out. A good Wilton...

Actual proof one brand is superior when it comes to sockets?

I have taken about 10 or 12 brands into a test lab and checked to see how many pounds of pressure it takes before a wrench spreads or a socket cracks. Like it has been stated. It depends on the quality control. Snap-on has a fit and finish above the rest and you can see it. I have had...

Can somebody explain the Wilton fetish to me please?

Wilton has made some of the best vices around for so long. The company also makes Milling machines, Band saws and many other products. They are the Snap-on vices and machinery. Look at the prices of the new ones and that will give you an idea. Once you have used good vices you will wonder why...

    Wrench qwestion

I have a set of Easco wrenches form 20mm to 32mm in my tractor barn on the farm. I like the better than Craftsman. They are good. KAL are made in the US but I don't care for the quality. Proto and SK sets are out there cheap if you look. I just picked up a SK set of fully polished Metric...

    The Perfect SNAP-ON Ratchet Idea????

People take handles off of screw drivers and drill them out and then install them on smaller ratchets all the time. Some of the members here do it and then sell them as a custom ratchet. They make damn good money on them. You can buy a larger replacement handle and put it on any ratchet. You...

Why no automotive love for industrial brands ? (Proto, Wright, Williams etc.)

In other words you are telling us the truth. You don't want to be prepared for your job. You are willing to spend thousands more than necessary because you are lazy. A good set of Craftsman will do 80% of what all mechanics do. Proto is a very fine brand and good quality. BlackHawk is...

How do you store your taps/dies etc?

Most of my sets are in cases but I have many loose taps. 50 years ago I took big blocks of aluminum and drilled holes in it the sizes of the taps. I must have 100 taps stored this way. They are all working end up and never bang against each other. I have sense done it with wood for my son's...
