Cleaning CMU and Bricks after fire

For shop under reconstruction pressure washer. Paint it when you get the structure completed. It will never be uniform.

How crazy is moving a custom built carport?

Let sleeping dogs lie. If it becomes an issue, move it then and be apologetic about it. Be quick about getting it done as well.

Pick my plans apart - What did you wish you did when you built?

You can do 14ft door and 14ft wall. You just need to use scissor trusses. Do at 12ft wide door if you plan to put trailers in or a RV that isn't a long straight path in the door. I have 16ft but very tight turn and that's not always easy with long trailer. The door incremental cost is nothing...

Looking for the worlds strongest magnetic hooks

Magnets need thickness to be effective - a lot of the examples shown in this thread are to things that are a lot thicker than 28ga building liner. It is quite amazing how fast the strength falls off. Just look at the specs on a permanent magnet for lifting.

How would you paint something on a car subject to damage?

Nothing is going to work if you are really using rock sliders to slide on rocks. I don't care what prep material it will be wiped off and bare metal exposed. Prep all away and do your best but for the final surface I would do a satin black and touch up with a rattle can as needed. Even hot...

Large 35 x 50 Addition Cosmetic Tie in creating Headache...

Expensive and if you want any sort of proportions to things I wouldn't be adding any more garage doors to the front of the house. Not only is this going to be a Unicorn, you might actually diminish the entire value of the property. Shops themselves are losers on dollars in v. additional values...

Anyone here keep there air compressor outside next to the garage?

For about 20 years I had mine under a "temporary" sheet of plywood propped up by a couple of 2x4's. Not visible to anyone so it never got to be all that important. I got that compressor when my Grandfather moved to assisted living. It spent probably 30yrs behind his shop under a simple open...

Enclosed car trailer winch install ideas wanted

I was assuming floor mounted e track but low down on the wall with at least 45deg sling angle should be ok if it rolls

    Vibrating concrete in small casting

Palm sander probably doesn't have the umph. Try a sawzall or air hammer.

What color is your garage/barn ceiling?

Before I built I painted the underside of the roof sheeting. 22yrs later it's still kinda white. I intended to sheetrock the bottom of the trusses at some point but my drywaller went and died on me before I had the funds to do it.

Need help choosing a storage shed

Yes things want to live under a platform, but better under it than gnawing on things that you are trying to preserve. I have seen plenty of dirt floor sheds that end up with rodents living there.

    Engineering specification

Good luck with painting galvanized surface. It can be done, but even with all the prep done just right the paint isn't going to stay stuck long term.

Need help choosing a storage shed

I will add since this is GJ. You do have to be careful because it starts getting easy to justify tools doing this. .... if I am building a building I will need a framing nailer, that needs a hose and a compressor, since I have a hose and compressor I should get the roofing nailer while I am at...

Need help choosing a storage shed

I get budgets are real, and there are restrictions on time and talent. A shed is a perfect place to pick up some skills if you don't have them. You can probably DIY a 8x10 for less than $700 in materials. You also can spend past that in a heartbeat. If you have $700 now, at some point you will...

Moving into metal building shop. The insulation is filthy but intact. Cleaning?

Quick hit - rinse with garden hose and airless paint it especially up high. Put up 8ft "wall" all around that looks intentional.

    CLEANEST shop?

Body and paint work, or my case fiberglass bring a lot of other challenges with the mountains of pretty lightweight dust that goes everywhere. I did a big job on a bright yellow boat 18yrs ago. I still find a yellow dust from time to time.

    CLEANEST shop?

It is funny you mention 5S to my response. I did a lot of work training a lot of people on it in our plant. It made perfect sense when you are doing the same basic job on a consistent takt time, it really does make a productivity difference. We also saved a ton of money on not ending up with so...

    CLEANEST shop?

I think a big part of this is being willing to invest in storage/organization solutions. It is easy to justify a tool you need to do a job. I am in the midst of a decluttering crisis in my shop of 20yrs. It was pretty easy to keep clean when I moved into it from the 2car garage attached to the...

    Soffit Suggestions Needed

I would do my best to match the existing structure. One of my pet peeves is when an addition is not even making an effort to mesh in with the existing, or the existing isn't updated to mesh with the new.

    Lets see your workbench

Picture of my latest update to mine. While it was in progress. I've since painted and added shelf between the boxes. Lots of the previous support structure is piled on the top. It's not much cleaner today but all different piles 😕 I have mixed opinions on the Yukon boxes. Good enough for...
