Ran mine for an hour to break it in, changed the oil then ran it dry to store it. It starts right up and is very quiet and light. It's amazing that this thing will run for 6 hours on a half gallon of gas.

I'd also go with powder coating. I wouldn't trust spray paint for a food contact surface.

+1 for the used Echo option. I've got an es-250. It's a leaf vacuum and blower. It's great. I like being able to go to home depot and buy 4 of the same tuneup kits for all my Echo equipment. Makes maintenance very easy.
