No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Wow ... This turned out to be a great(and fun) discussion topic. For a while there, I was starting to feel bad about no longer having a truck ... but it's comforting to know I'm not the ONLY one out there. I suppose it doesn't make me any less of a truckless outcast -but in the grand scheme of...

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Well, some of us ... well, maybe just me ... are still within the "beginner level" of DIY projects and woodworking, so we have to work with what we have available to us at the moment. :dunno: Again, for the record, I did have a 2000 Chevy S10 pickup truck that was given to us by a friend of my...

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Sans incurring the additional expense of purchasing a trailer and/or making any modifications to my car ... perhaps I might just try using my friend who has an SUV with a top rack when the time comes to purchase my sheets of wood. I may still look into the removable top rack idea .... but in...

    36" Too Deep for Workbench?

Personally, like many here, I do not think 36" is too deep. I built a 48" x 36" workbench (using the 2x4 Basics workbench leg kit) and I use it as both a workbench and an assembly table. In fact, mine looks almost identical to THIS GUY'S BENCH - including my decision to use 2x6's for the...

    2x4 basics

Now THAT is an interesting idea, I only wonder how much my 3.5' x 8' 3 tier 2x4 Basics bench weighs ... let alone with stuff on/in it. Hmmmmm . . . . :headscrat

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Starting to give more thought to the roof rack idea - not too expensive at, say, WalMart. Removable too. This for the older TOYOTA, of course.

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

That may be the route to go for me - as I am not bringing home 4x8 sheets of wood every weekend. Maybe once every two months or so.

At the moment, I have a Toyota Camry. :3gears: I don't believe the wife would appreciate my towing sheet wood with the BMW.

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Right, and I have done that several times. Sometimes though, one does need to bring a bigger sheet home to cut out certain pattern parts and such - that aren't easily accomplished (or even possible) with their panel saw.

No Truck - How To Get Wood Home ??

Used to have a pickup truck ... don't no more (engine shot - RIP). :( So I'm wondering how those of you without the benefit of a truck get your large sheet plywood or MDF home from the lumber yard/store. - Do you try to find a friend with a truck? - Do you rent a pickup truck for a few...
