    Whitewater Garage Build

What a difference a week makes. We got the engineer approved and stamped solution to the truss problem over the area that we wanted to use as a bedroom and we got 18" of unexpected snow. If you remember when we raised the downstairs roof from 10 to 13' to add a car lift that also raised the...

Thanks for letting me know Larry, I will go back to just hosting them on GJ. The problem is they are at a lower resolution but at least everyone sees them.

Engineers - Ideas To Replace These Trusses?

Just wanted to follow up on this. The truss company engineers took a look at the original plans and their calculations. The basically said they over built the trusses and what they plan to do is remove the portion of the truss, replace some of the structure with 2x4s and then sandwich the...

Thanks Ret, I think I figured out the problem. I have been trying follow the instructions to post pictures from Google Photos but I keep forgetting to take the links from the shared album. Hopefully, the pictures are visible now.

    Whitewater Garage Build

Just a few pictures in this update but some good news. The good news is that after about 2 months of waiting the truss company engineer has had time to look at my project to modify existing trusses in the bedroom area to gain at 2 feet in the existing ceiling so it can be raised from a 5'...

    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

I went on the Pro-lighting website and they referred me to someone who sent me a worksheet. It asked for all the dimensions of the shop and what level of light I wanted. They created a lighting diagram and suggested lights and fixtures, no extra charge plus the 7% off for mentioning GJ.

Thanks for sharing that looks great! It is interesting you see those big beams go in and they are so impressive you want everyone to see them. Looks like your roof is about as complicated as mine judging from the trusses everywhere. I can't wait until I can move a couch in and start watching...

Engineers - Ideas To Replace These Trusses?

Hi Everyone, I am the OP, somehow I was not getting updates to the thread so I "assumed" nobody was answering. Thank you all for the great comments and suggestions. Here is where we are, the original truss engineer explained that the primary purpose of these trusses is not only to support the...

    Whitewater Garage Build

Somehow it seems that these jobs seem to slow down and then I look at the last post and see that we have made good progress. The main hold up is still finding a solution to replace the trusses on the second floor with steel to allow the ceiling height in the bedroom to go from 5' to 7'. This...

    Whitewater Garage Build

@gmyers, for the deck we used a marine grade plywood with a slight slope away from the building. The membrane is glued down with a special adhesive, where it overlaps they use a special bonding adhesive. We have each side go right up and over the 2x4's that frame the perimeter of the deck with...

Engineers - Ideas To Replace These Trusses?

I agree, we originally were going to use the area as storage so we did not pursue changing the truss design. However, once we actually saw what it looked like the idea of making it a livable space came up. I am not an engineer, but it seems we should be able to create a support that would...

Engineers - Ideas To Replace These Trusses?

So we are ready to have the framing inspection done but I would like to see if there is a way to replace the wood trusses in the picture with possibly wood beams or steel beams. My contractor is dragging his feet on this as he usually works just with wood trusses and not steel. If we leave it...

    Whitewater Garage Build

Here is another update. I don't have many indoor shots to show because most of the activity has been outdoors. Yesterday the excavator was here and trenched power, septic, water and propane trenches. I took advantage of the trench from our house to the new building to drop in some buriable...

    Whitewater Garage Build

Finally have time for an after Holiday Season update: The roof, exterior windows and doors are in! In the Pacific Northwest that is a huge point as the building can begin to dry out. Most of the siding is in place except for the shingle siding at either end and around the dormers. We are...

Thinking of buying a new auto lift

Pretty close to getting the same Rotary as above, SPOA-10. Questions: 1. Are there any accessories that you purchased or wish you purchased? 2. Where does the power connect on this lift, top right or left? Thanks!
