Dinner/presentation by Renewal by Andersen tomorrow

I get these very same flyers all the time in my mail. In fact, just got one about a week ago. My house is a teardown and it doesn't make sense to put big money into new windows. Yes, I pay a few hundred extra per year for heat. Oh well . . . My dad put real Anderson wood-framed windows...

Compressor in basement. Where h20 separator?

And slope your piping system such that it preferably drains back to the tank, and/or to the downstream condensate trap leg where you should have a drain valve.

    Sailor Beall prob

I'll let you in on a little secret. Grainger's "house brand" of compressors is Speedaire. Grainger of course doesn't make their own compressors - they sell rebranded ones made by others, including Saylor Beall. I purchased a Saylor Beall RV-15A (the "value" version of their R15 pump, which...

    Sailor Beall prob

If you lose one phase on a three-phase motor, it "single-phases" (yes, even though two remaining phases are connected, it is considered single phase from an electrical standpoint) the motor and it doesn't have enough current to start, so it will just hum. The can permanently damage the motor...

Best place to buy attached lid storage containers/totes like they use in warehouses? And what brand is the best value?

Costco in my area typically carries the 12-gallon storage crates and is the least-expensive place to get them. They used to be $6-7 each and now are I think $10 each. I have had good luck with them. They do get brittle over time and if you stack heavily-loaded ones on top of each other too...

    Need help identifying strange tool

It's a single-size speed wrench. Much like a single-size nut driver (I don't use them; I have a screwdriver-handle 1/4" driver in my box that I use with sockets). Not very common. I had two very nice speed wrenches and gave them away because I never used them. Don't miss them either. Now...

Quincy QR series compressor: how old is too old?

Just for a reference, sit down, take some deep breaths, and see what a new 350 pump (only, not the entire compressor) sells for: https://www.compressorworld.com/350l-quincy-compressor-pressure-lubricated-5-10-hp-air-compressor-pump-with-flywheel-40062.html

Quincy QR series compressor: how old is too old?

A Quincy 350 is one of my bucket-list compressors, to spin low and slow with a 5HP motor. If it turns over and makes the usual wheezing noises, I'd go for it. They have full-pressure lubrication that unloads the pump if it loses oil pressure. Your hardest task will be moving the darn thing...

    Sailor Beall prob

If it is a three-phase compressor (assuming that it is if at a commercial building), if one fuse blew, it would hum and not start. I would first check that all phase voltages are present and correct. Is the compressor in an unheated space? At one former employer, our compressor was outside...

Help me replace my air compressor hardware

Amazon has the Square D pressure controllers, and their are dozens of flavors of them, with options ranging from unloader yes/no (yours is yes), switch built in (yours has a switch), pressure control range values, and also if adjustable or not, horsepower rating (there is a lighter-duty and...

The Napa Auto Parts Website is Frustrating

You guys are lucky! My local, professionally-staffed NAPA store just didn't get bad over time, it just up and closed! And there was probably over 100 person-years' worth of experience behind the counter. I got a text from a friend a few weeks ago that WIX filters were on sale. I went to the...

Feasibility of lift in my garage

If you install a scissors lift, such as a Bendpak SP-7X (just went and looked up current price ) - NEVERMIND! I have one of these in my garage with 8' 6" of clearance, so I can't lift vehicles up very high.

How the heck can I lose two caulk guns?

Those caulk condoms work! Home Depot carried them 15 years ago but no longer does apparently. I ordered some from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08N4B9MZG/?tag=atomicindus08-20 I also confess to having several caulk guns, each usually loaded with a different tube for different uses. The...

Just bought harbor freight 60 gal 5 hp compressor

Are you talking about the pipe thread (NPT) reducing bushing that is threaded into the tank outlet? They are commonly available, just search for your pipe sizes such as 2" male to 3/4" female. Good luck getting the existing bushing loose from the tank!

Can I lube my door locks and car locks with Triflow?

I used to work for a major heavy truck manufacturer that had class 8 trucks running 24/7/365 on their durability test track. They did extensive testing of lock lubricants during this on-track testing, as the truck went through a salt spray every lap on the track. Best lock lubricant? WD-40...

    Upgrading air compressor regulator

Just eliminate the regulator completely, or have a second compressor output that is regulated for lower-flow tools. You'll be amazed at the difference in performance that it makes. Yes you can run them on higher pressure with no issues - a lot of shops do.

What's a good moisture removal accessory for my air compressor?

Located as far away from the compressor as possible, so the air has more time to cool down before it hits the filter.

    John deere lawn tractors

It has more anti-wear additives that they have removed from on-road motor oils in order to not damage the emissions systems. After reading on the lawn mower forums about lawn care companies down south using diesel oil in their air-cooled gas-powered equipment with great success, I switched...
