I have a yellow- handle Proto 8" chromed alignment bar with white pitting and the puke smell, and have seen old Proto handles turn completely white and disintegrate in chunks... maybe yours are newer and have a different plastic formulation?

There are at least a couple places that do asbestos testing around here, and the more expensive option is around $40 with a 24-hour turnaround. We drop off the samples (flooring and adhesive in our case). JR
