If you need to remove the zinc coating from a bolt, nut or screw...drop it in some Ospho and it will eat the zinc off and leave a nice clean steel surface you can weld to. I've been doing this for hardware for my furniture to match the unfinished steel I build in.

Just a little trick I use when cutting short peices on my cold saw. I put a large magnet on the stand frame to keep the little buggers from falling on the floor or flying off somewhere. Also you can use compressed air to blow off the magnets, just have eye protection on!

Thanks for the feedback all. Problem is sometimes I'm welding up a tube steel frame with no where to clamp to the work thus the mag clamp. I'll try making sure its clean and investigate making something better.

What about using a jig saw? if you were able to clamp and protect your work from scratches I would think a saw would work ok. Need to clean up the edge of course. I too have been looking to buy a shear and brake....deals are out there but you have to be on your toes.

Often times I'm in the need for a traditional clamp ground clamp on my MIG welder as well as a magnetic attachement. Currently I have to take my ground wire off my jaw clamp and bolt to the magnetic ground. Is there an attachement that does both? I'm probably asking for too much here. One...

Thanks, but I have a bench with my vise, bench grinder, drill press, etc. mounted already. This will just be for layout, jigging, welding and hand grinding. Maybe reduce the over hang to 3" or 4" instead of 6 though...since I don't have any clamps that deep anyway!
