I like to hit all the local yard sales and the Restore. Found lots of brand new things that we needed for cheap. Last yard sale I was at before starting on my shop had a used Square D breaker box with about 12 breakers in it of various amps for 5 bucks. I didn't think to buy it until later that...

Actually the weather the last few days has been fantastic. Mornings in the 20s but 50s in the afternoon. Snow is just about all gone. Had some help from my neighbor today and got the roof finished. Nobody fell off thankfully so now I can keep my feet on the ground for the trim work and the rest...

I picked up the shingles the other day. Got a great deal from Home Depot. Shingles were a special order that someone decided not to buy so they let me have 17 bundles for 50% off the regular price of $29.00. They're lifetime shingles and the exact color we wanted to match the house and garage. I...

I started the build the week after Thanksgiving and tried to do at least something every day. My experience is limited as a carpenter but this shop was pretty simple. I think things through before I start the days work to hopefully keep from screwing up too bad. I do plan on insulating and...

Picked up the rest of the materials to finish the shop today, roof shingles and paint. Tested 7 different greens and decided to go with the darkest one, Eucalyptus with bright white trim. With nothing else to buy for just the structure the grand total came in over budget at $5394.00.

    My "Shed" - 14x28 Maryland

Nice looking shed/shop/garage. Now for the million dollar question, what's something like that cost up in your neck of the woods?

Well it made it to 39 degrees today so I thought I'd get the doors in. Everything went as planned and fit like the picture in the book. We're supposed to get nice weather next week so hopefully I'll get the soffits closed off and some trim work done. As you see in the last picture we are testing...

I did actually, lol. I had to move all the trim boards to keep them from getting snowed on. Then had to sweep out the snow that got in the doors that aren't installed yet and start to cleanup some of the tool mess. The weatherman lied to us and it did'nt snow much last night at all but it will...

Right now the ties are nailed with 6 16d nails on each side but I think I will add an angle bracket with screws on each side for added strength. The top of the ties fall just inside the lower third of the roof. The ceiling height will finish at 103" at the bottom of the ties.

Start of 1 car garage for my Harley

No garage is too small to be a "Mancave" as long as it's organized well and it looks like you have done that. Nice job!

The county will only let a homeowner build up to 200 SF without inspections as of October. I'm not sure why the change but a friend of mine thinks they're after more revenue. I think it's because of all the rickety shacks that people build around the area. I see a few that have the garage doors...

The only permit that is required is a land use permit. The county just wants to make sure that the location is correct for setback requirements and it's not too close to the house or garage. The building at or under 400 square feet requires no inspections. Electrical or plumbing will require an...

The first wall I built and sheathed while it was on the pad but it was a bear to lift with only two people. The last three walls I built and put in place before the sheathing went on which was a piece of cake.
