I'm assuming you have a welding table and what works really well for "localized" heating for me is using a Kerosun kerosene heater under the welding table. Most of the heat goes straight up, which heats the metal that radiates out...

I installed 2 of the 8 by 7 doors from Lowes/HD about 8 years ago and although thin, they are doing well. They are on a rent house so I"m sure tenants are harsher on them than the average person and no issues so far... I hope I didn't jinx myself...
