I agree completely with Jason280. I weld very often on 1/8" mild steel and prefer using .023 wire. Are you using straight CO2 as your shielding gas? If so, you should really be using 75% Argon/ 25% CO2 mix (often called C25). You seem to be having the same problems documented by this guy...

Thanks! Under the sliding top I have important stuff, like candy, Advil and my McMaster catalog! It's mostly the stuff that won't fit in my other drawers and don't need all the time.

Good question, but I'm not sure. We order all of our taps from McMaster, and they always are top level quality. Sometimes different sizes are from different manufacturers. Now that you bring it up, I'll keep an eye out for what brands they are.
