    Welder purchase questions

Primeweld, HTP and Everlast are good alternatives. I have a Miller MIG but an Everlast TIG and I am very happy with it. I know lots of people with Primewelds and they swear by them. Stay away from the YesWelder and super cheap stuff. Have heard mixed things on Harbor Freight and Eastwood.

    Copper pro press for airlines?

Wow. Thx - never thought copper would be cheaper. Suprising. I know people also use PEX. That could be even cheaper? It has a max pressure rating of 160 psi.

    Copper pro press for airlines?

Price it out - I can't imagine running copper of any size would be cheaper that a rapidair kit or one of the knockoffs. If you buy the kit it has a lot of fittings in it so you may not need to buy too many more?

    Remote controlled light switches

Lutron Caseta for the win. Go buy a starter pack at HD. Comes with the hub, one switch and the "pico" remote switch. I have replaced the switches in two homes with these. Rock solid.

Can anyone school me on hot water booster pumps?

FullRaceMerc nailed it. My basement wasn’t finished so I was able to loop my hot water lines and add a Grundfos recirculating pump that tracks your patterns so it minimizes energy use. Highly recommend it. Instant hot water at every tap in my house. If you already have a return line into...

    Suspended Waterproof Floor

I had a brilliant idea of using helical piles and Coosa board which is a fiberglass panel used instead of marine plywood in shipbuilding. Then I saw the paver suggestions. That is by far the most elegant solution. Cheap, easy to install, self draining and you can take it apart and move it...

25 yr. Old Compressor, Rebuild, New Pump or Replace? 2026

That is why I would disconnect any lines and plug the outlet port. I would start the troubleshooting by testing just the tank for leaks. Once you have figured that you can work down the line, just like troubleshooting an electrical circuit. Agree that the check valve could be an issue. Any...

25 yr. Old Compressor, Rebuild, New Pump or Replace? 2026

Get a NPT threaded plug and put it in the outlet port of the tank. Run it up to pressure and then use soapy water to find where it is leaking. If the tank isn’t leaking through any of the ports (inlet, outlet or drain) then get the HF compressor. You will save a lot of money vs a new compressor.

Tractor Supply Black Diamond medium coal slag

Agree. Works great but you have to stick to the finer grit unless you have massive compressor capable of 30cfm+. I tried the medium grit and it would clog constantly. Needed a larger orifice nozzle but the next size up needed 30cfm

VFD on 36" bandsaw restoration want IPM speed display any ideas?

Here is a link to how to build one yourself for a few bucks. I am in the middle of modifying this design to use as an RPM display for my variable speed Rockwell Delta drill press. Should have it done later this week and will post the project once I have it working...

    Best Hex / Torx sockets?

GripEdge are the best ones I have found. If you are working on cars they are a lifesaver as they have an anti-rounding feature so they will bite even the most rounded or rusted hex and torx bolts. I can't tell you how pleasantly surprised I have been with what they will get out. There was...

Mfg date for my restored Red Devil paint shaker?

Just finished restoring this. Bought it when I went to pick up a FB Marketplace find of an old Rockwell Delta combo disc/belt sander. This was sitting forlornly in the corner, covered in dirt and grease. Got it for $25. Rewired it, replaced the on/off switch that didn't work, cleaned it up...
