After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

Well I got the garage door opener up today. I also ran my cat6 cable for an uplink from the basement into the garage. Also, where the house and garage meet, I put some leftover insulation in. It'll be great being able to have my wife park and open up the door from the car again. It's been a...

Heat gun. I recently used it to put a new grip on a fishing rod I'm building.

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

I had to take a break from the garage for a bit. I was redoing the insulation over the addition to the house, and over my downstairs living space to code. That took up some time and budget for a few, but this weekend I'm ready to start moving ahead again. I was traded a newer and larger garage...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

Another nice addition has been having a driveway light. It had been a while since I had a functioning one working properly. It was nice to have back. I went with just a basic light, but with two 3000 lumen LED bulbs. They light up the driveway great and I dialed in the range pretty much near...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

After the new electrical box came the wiring. I was able to have a single box installed at the front and end of my garage where I can turn on or off the two zones. This will be more important later as well when the partition wall goes up, but also just handy. I don't have totally updated pics on...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

I had to take down my garage door opener while I was redoing the ceiling. I have enough of it together that I've been using it manually at least, but sheet rocking the ceiling soon so I can put the motor back up will be nice. We had to extend a few pieces of metal to add the extra height of the...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

One big change, was that it turned out the feed from my basement into the garage was no longer up to code. It was also not grounded properly. Also, the panel in my garage was no longer up to code either. So that ledt to a complete new run of wire from the basement, coming up into the garage. The...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

I got a little off track with posting pictures of the garage, and for a bit it was at a standstill while I was getting other permit and building issues done one the house. Today I passed my fire inspection on my addition, and tomorrow I have my FINAL Building Inspection. Maybe we will get in...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

The rest was strapped today. We had a bit of ceiling left, but also did the angled walls between the wall and ceiling. The towan said it could be up to 4' 2", but just used a 4' level to mark the height, amd the extra 2" wasn't worth pushing the limit with the building department. I'm looking...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

Exactly. I have a leanto on the other side of the garage thats about 10x24 or so. Those boards are plywood, and there are like 12" bolts coming through from the leanto, through the garage walls, and nuts on the inside of the garage. I can get better pictures later. I'd like to leave the leanto...

Doesn't look like a lot, but removed the old windows. They were old, barely opened and closed, and I prefer the wall space going forward. As it turned out, they basically weren't even framed in right. No sill, no header, etc. Moving ahead.

I got the clips installed and the insulation looks good on the exterior wall, so I'll leave that in place.

Not too exciting, but picked up my hurricane clips today. I need to install them on each collar tie with 10 nails each in all.. Not sure if they're required everywhere so I thought I'd share. To me its interesting to see details and regional laws/tastes/requirements when I watch build threads...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

We got most of the strapping up today, and finished nailing in the collar ties. I still need to demo the walls on the left, and change out the support for the garage door. Still, not bad progress today.

It feels huge in there now compared to before. I love it already. I intend to finish the ceiling as well. I'd like to utilize the height with things like my kayaks or bikes. That kind of stuff never seems to fit anywhere.

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

I was issued my first permit for the house, no mention of the garage. It was then when they came back for the final framing inspection that brought up the garage etc. In all honesty, if I didn't want to do the garage, I probably would have fought that it was never brought up during the...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

Finally, the new ceiling is in, and the old beam is down. We need to install hurricane clips all around now, and finish putting in more nails in the collar ties, but I'm really happy with this part being over. It was a ton of work getting the 20' boards up and and over the center beam and around...

After 12 years, I get to rehab my garage.

Yesterday we installed the collar ties. We were able to install them up to 1/3 of the current roof height. The new ceiling height is going to be around 10' 8" or so finished. Thats a huge difference from where I was last week. Taking down the center beam after getting up enough collar ties was...
