Ok, so here we are at page 114 of Gregor's epic, it's been absolutely amazing introducing most of us to things we'd have been better off not knowing about, Festo, Seiko to name but two, mine's been shaved head rivets !!! Perhaps the moderators should put a warning notice up, be aware that this...

    Safety Wire Pliers....

The best place to get your pliers would be from an aircraft supply shop, I buy mine froma local aircraft parts house here in Australia. In the US buy from either; www.yardstore.com www.aircraft-tool.com The preferred brand would be Milbar, you can also get the correct wire from these outlets...

How often do you need to use a 12 pt socket

I look after a collection of cars for a client, his engine builder uses ARP bolts on nearly everything and as rule they're reduced head 12 point bolts. My 12 point sockets get a real work out on his cars.

What are your MUST HAVE mechanic tools?

Surprised that no one's suggested a good mirror on an extendable stick, mine gets used a lot, also plastic caps and plugs, nothings worse than pools of fluid under the car.

What Brand(s) are in your toolbox

75% Beta 20% Koken rest is assorted odd stuff i.e. one Snap On wrench, couple of lock wire pliers and assorted layout and riveting tools I bought from the local aircraft parts store. Ryobi air tools, good value, not broken so far but get a real workout.

9mm sockets and wrenches. Had anyone ever used that size on anything?

Used to look after a Citroen DS for a customer and that had 9mm bolt heads all over it, and so do some Maserati's Merak's as they were owned by Citroen for a while.

"Whats your favorite tool and why?"

Every time I'm in the workshop my Beta 900/40 1/4 drive swivel T handle gets a work out, it's the most used tool I have. Very rarely do I have to use anything more than 1/4 drive and for tight places it scores every time.

    Your favorite spark plug socket(s)

For years I had a Champion ( spark plug brand ) plug ratchet, sockets and extension, but someone thought they needed it more than I did. Never been able to find another. It was given to me by a Champion rep at a race track, so might have been a promotional set, but would sure like another.
