Correct. Large swings in setpoint will enable heat strips for fast temp rise. A switch can be installed to lock out heat strips. I had thought of this, but did not execute. Some of the "better" thermostats allow adjustment of the 2nd stage setpoint. CT

Electric heat is 100% efficient. Heat Pump can reach 300% efficiency. Texas and Gulf States produce a lot of the Natural Gas and Propane that goes to the Northeast and Midwest. We don't have as much access to Natural Gas as our northern neighbors. Propane gets very expensive the cooler it gets...
