I also screwed a bit of metal to the shop wall (held away from wall with a couple nuts through the screws) and use that like a belt clip mount. Seems to help. I usually use the "chrome" Stanley tapes. With my little brain I have a MUCH easier time finding it if is set it down yellow side up...

Thanks for all the good info. I'm good for now, we are still deciding whether to make an offer on the property or not. In any case, the slab seems a plus regardless of what we might do with it. And given that it has held up well over a number of years is a fairly good sign. Jim
