    generator transfer

I see ATS online from $64.99 to $868. If you are putting in a whole house or really any stand-by genny, its not alot compared to the rest of the investment. The 9kw Generac for the well came with the ATS all for $1800.

    generator transfer

In the last two weeks we have had two storms with winds over 70 mph. The last one had five trees take out not only power lines but also poles. All of east Texas was affected and yes, people were down for days. I love my 37kw whole house Generac. We just put a small one on our neighborhood...

    generator transfer

Without an ATS, when the power goes out at midnight in a storm, the freezer is off, the HVAC is off, my CPAP is off, etc. If you aren't home it might be off for days. I would say an ATS for a home is required.

Trying to figure out best type of frame for 40x60x14/16 metal shop build in tornado alley (Oklahoma), I thought there were just 3 major types....

My shop has about a 5 foot drop front to back. They poured the perimeter foundation walls in 3 steps. After that they backfilled, compacted in lifts, and poured the slab on top. Zero cracks after 8 years. The foundation walls were all set on undisturbed soil.

    Ice Machine in your shop?

We thought so too, until we got one that made tophat cubes. Cubes don't melt nearly as fast in a drink or in the bin as shaved ice. Perfectly happy with ours.

How to get rid of a snake living in wooden siding on an exterior house wall??

We were over run with squirrels for the last few years. They were eating the deck plants and tearing up the ouitdoor furniture. A couple of months ago I noticed a nice 4 foot Texas rat snake had setup home under the deck. All the sudden we haven't seen a squirrel in weeks :)

Trying to figure out best type of frame for 40x60x14/16 metal shop build in tornado alley (Oklahoma), I thought there were just 3 major types....

All three of my shops have been red iron. The first two were welded. This one is bolt up, engineered and fabbed in a shop. All of them have been fine and have survived some big storms. We had two storms last week that were well over 70mph straight winds and trees down everywhere. No damage...

    Insulation and A/C

About 90% of the shops in the south, if insulated, are insulated with vinyl backed fiberglass wrapped on the frame before the panels are applied. A good number of those are then air conditioned. I have yet to see one with mold.

    Insulation and A/C

Just insulate the damn roof any way you want. It will make a huge difference. Mine has 4 inches plus 8 inches of plastic backed fiberglass metal building insulation. The walls just have 4 inches. Makes a huge difference.

    Ice Machine in your shop?

We have a 30# Hoshizaki in the kitchen, builtin. It makes fast. We have never run out even making homemade ice cream with an old fashioned crank machine. It is a standard under counter appliance and about 16" wide. It is a bit noisy. If it died tomorrow we would definitely replace it. It...

Loft build in metal building question

We had 70+ mph storm twice this week with over a foot of rain. Lots of trees down as we live in a forest around a lake. Five huge oaks took out the power line and closed the road across the lake. Our rural electric company did great work replacing 3 poles and restringing wire to get all the...

Loft build in metal building question

Here you're more likely to get 4-6" of ice occassionally, but we see 70-100 mph winds every year on average.

Anyone dealt with crawl space encapsulation??

Some older homes used the crawl space as a return air plenum. It was a bad idea with unsealed crawl spaces, but I have seen it done.
