Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

Motorcitykid, congratulations on your 150. I always like to hear when people find the videos and/or the threads here on GJ to be useful in getting their drill presses running. Your table surface on that 150 looks like its in good condition, that machine should serve you for your lifetime. Jeff

    11b30b4’s Delta W2268B 7” Grinder Rebuild

The wait is over. New video series on the rebuilding of this grinder is in the works and part 1 premiers in one week on 8/21/2023 at 10:00 am EST. Here is a link to the series. Part 1 is just background and information, I get into disassembly in Part 2. Enjoy...

Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

Viper GTS, sounds like that one for $150 is more feasible if its still available. Just to let you know, all the commercial models are basically the same. The only significant differences were in the power switch layout, data panel graphics colors. It was the power switch layout that...

Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

Viper GTS, the model number 113.24520 could be anywhere between 1978 and 1983; although, I have only seen 24520 machines produced in 1983 like the one I rebuild and made the video series on. As for the motor information it really does not make any sense to me. Typically, I want to see the motor...

Craftsman Drill Press Information Belts, Bearings, Chucks, Keys, etc…1946-1984

I have never seen a Vari-Slow attachment in person but the manual shows 3 belts. 12”, 17”, and 20” V-belts. I assume they are all ½” belts. Here is a link to the manual. http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/222/3013.pdf

1920-60s DELTA / ROCKWELL picture thread - Post your Delta!

Same here but I have learned that when I wire wheel small parts if I don't wear gloves then I loose all seven layers of skin quite quickly.

1920-60s DELTA / ROCKWELL picture thread - Post your Delta!

Southern83, thanks for the information. I have been looking as some of those Baldor stands. Rd65, I completely agree. Hoorn, thank you for looking, I figured if anyone would know it would have been you. Anyway, I will start tearing down this grinder in the coming weeks. This will probably...

1920-60s DELTA / ROCKWELL picture thread - Post your Delta!

It has been a while since I posted in this thread. Southern83, what stand is that on your grinder? I am currently looking for a good stand that is close in appearance to the Delta OEM cast iron stand. Snip’s I like that bearing packer. So, I may be finally getting around to rebuilding my...

The Vintage Craftsman GP Motor Thread

KS, I think FrankLee covered this nicely, but I will add a few observations. I do not believe that gravity has a significant effect on the motor. The electromagnetic force that is created by the stator will force the rotor to center regardless of its orientation and everything I have seen with...

11b30b4’s Craftsman 103.24260 Band Saw Rebuild

Is it better? that would depend on what you want in a band saw. I like my 60.

11b30b4’s Craftsman 103.24260 Band Saw Rebuild

did you mean the 24280 and not 24680? The 24280 has a different outer case and a different belt tension system that can be manually adjusted from the knob on top. also the 80 does not have the quick tension release that the 60 has. I hope that helps.

    11b30b4's Craftsman 113.213780 15.5" Drill Press (Emerson Gen-4) Rebuild

Xander, good job on getting the runout down a bit. As for the noise and the column. The column should not go all the way to the floor. If you look at the underside of the base you should notice that the bottom column bore (there are three) is about 1/8” above the floor. My method for mounting...

    11b30b4's Craftsman 113.213780 15.5" Drill Press (Emerson Gen-4) Rebuild

You can remove the thrust collar but it is a real pain in the **** since it has a blind taper pin. I did not remove mine on the spindle I corrected. I chucked the spindle in my metal lathe all the way to the top of the thrust collar and went with that. If you do try to remove the thrust collar...

    11b30b4's Craftsman 113.213780 15.5" Drill Press (Emerson Gen-4) Rebuild

As I understand it, almost all “bent” Craftsman spindles are bent between the thrust collar and the taper. This is caused by lateral force applied to the spindle when using the drill press for shaping and other types of operations that apply this side force. That being said it can be corrected...
