New Garage Door Leaking Water in between section panels

The Installer called the manufacturer? I don't know that I believe what he told you. I suggest that YOU call them and send them the pictures. And take bigger, overall pics of the whole door. Including details of the joints with the door open. I doubt the manufacturer would just quickly dismiss...

Thinking of renting a towable boom lift for tree trimming...

Make sure the fuel tank is full. I made the mistake once of renting one and ASSUMING the tank was full. My helper was up about 25 feet, putting aluminum trim on the rakes of a church. The lift ran out of gas. The controls would not bring the lift back down. (either set). We were working on level...

Safe to rip 1/4” from 2x4s? Any tips?

So you are putting 2x4's upright across the joists? Spanning approximately 5 feet? Just the small area you pictured? Why not just notch a 1/4" out at the two spots where each 2x4 will cross the existing joists? And sister some 2x4 supports on the ceiling joists at each end for support. (Now, by...

Safe to rip 1/4” from 2x4s? Any tips?

Ripping from the 1-1/2" side or the 3-1/2" side? These 2x4's are surely not the only support for any flooring? You laying them on ceiling joists? Are the joists able to carry the load? Explain what's going on...

    Upgrading Old Car Electrical System

I am a member on a Mopar website/forum "For B Bodies Only". It has a lot of info. Parts and cars for sale too. Also has a sister site "For C bodies Only". I think Imperials are included on there. Might want to find it and join. (If you haven't already.)

What do you wish you had done differently when you built your shop?

Higher ceiling height. I ain't got room for a lift.... 9-1/2 feet don't get it.

    Removing center post

I don't think the original builder would have put the post there if it wasn't necessary... Better get it checked out by somebody with knowledge of structural integrity before you take it out.

    WTF? 26" lug wrench?

Aaaahhh yes.. The magical unique "Power Mode". You have to say the magic word to expand the tool when using it.

What is the correct technique to use vise grip pliers?

Vice grips are designed to be closed by hand. Why would you try to close them with another pair? It's just going to either slip and the tools go in different directions... OR you going to break something.

Home Depot Special Buy - Black and Gold Drill Bit Set (10-Piece) $6 shipped to door

To be used in plastic, wood, and metal. Read the specs, it says ducts and sheet metal. Don't sound like they are suitable for actual steel drilling.

    Floor Jack recommendations

Watch the HF deals on the Daytona jacks. It gets confusing when they put out the coupon for the regular low profile 3 ton jack. I have a Pittsburg 3 ton low profile, as well as a Daytona 3 ton low profile long reach jack. The long reach is really what you want for a high vehicle like a pickup...

    Floor jack crossbeam

I just pop off the saddle and bolt on the cross beam when I need it. It's just a bolt with a hex socket head. But you have to be careful to not lose one. The cross beam takes a longer shank bolt than the standard saddle.

Cleaning tire marks on VCT tiles

VCT soaks up stuff like a sponge. Ever see what happens if a Plumber drops some of that purple primer on a VCT floor? The purple immediately goes all the way through the tiles. We had to pop up some tiles on a couple of jobsites, and there were as big a purple stain on the bottom as on the top.

Who loves there Robo grips, because I do

About the only thing they are good for, is in the kitchen to open bottle caps for old ladies. (If the cap ain't too tight....)

    Garage door maintenance

Go to YOUTUBE and look up the channel for DDM Garage Doors. He has put out a bunch of great videos that helped me a lot on maintenance, spring replacements, and opener installation. The guy explains things well.

    Floor jack crossbeam

I have one from HF. I have used it several times when dropping and installing gas tanks. It was really useful to help balancing the very long tank under my Dodge 4x4. I have never tried actually lifting a car with one on the jack.

Harbor Freight, Love Them Or Hate Them

They are pretty much the only place to buy most tools for DIY mechanics since Sears died here. Other than the big orange or big blue home centers. (Or the chain auto parts store, who sell pretty much the same grade hand tools as HF at higher prices.) And the big fancy tool trucks don't come to...
