    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

Yesterday was burn day! Very professional, well run event. I was extremely impressed with the young volunteers and their leadership. They spent at least three hours doing room burns, basement burns and in-depth training before they let it go.

    my 30x48

Found your thread today. Very nice build. I am in the planning stages on a 30x50 shop with an attached small one bed room apartment. The two wheeled cabinets, side-by-side doors...can you tell me who manufactured them. I really prefer rolling stock as much as possible. Thanks. Again, well...

I do. It did play a part in the thought process...something others can think about on CJ if it applies. Best.

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

I've had some time this week, working from home while my kids are on Spring Break, to give the build some thought. As always, picking through the build threads has been extremely informative. In Maryland, especially in the area on the Potomac I live, I've got to stay near the square footage of...

    Tobacco Barn Shop

It is an interesting question. It took me a few years to get to know Harry, the lead Amish guy on the crew that did the work, to a point where I felt I could ask questions. So I did...he smokes as well, and they all drink a little bit. Some answers here...

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

A few more:) I'll post more as the house is burned, the foundation is trimmed and filled and the new slab is formed. I am still up in the air concerning design and have really been pouring through threads here admiring the craftsmanship, designs and attention to detail. There are some...

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

So, last week my son asks me if he and his buddies can use the house, which is idle for the next three weeks or so, for PAINTBALL!!! Why not? It was rainy and cold, but they had a gas defending the house, attacking the house and being 16. They staged out of my workshop and played for at least...

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

What Next? So, I've got a house shell and little else. I contacted the local Volunteer Fire Department and asked if they needed a place to train live fire. They were out in about 20 minutes! They will do a controlled burn of the house, starting with rooms and then taking the structure all...

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

Taking the House Apart I contacted a good friend of mine who is an Amish builder in the area. We've worked together on many projects in the past. His crew came and stripped all the aluminum siding from the house and I took it to be recycled...the price per pound was over $4.00. The windows...

    Rental House to Garage/Workshop

During the last few years it became apparent that a rental house we've had on the farm needed some foundation work...LOTS of foundation work. The previous owners built the house in the early 70's. House is on the right in the distance in the picture. Unfortunately, they also had a basement...

    Tobacco Barn Shop

I'll post some more pictures soon. I borrowed heavily from many projects here...the year has flown by. It has been nice to work on equipment in a heated space this winter.

Inspiration for the ASYLUM - My parents, the DIY maniacs

The lay out and organization is terrific...the cord storage behind the rolling cabinet is excellent.

    Tobacco Barn Shop

Update: Not quite "finished" with the interior (the picture show some boxes and old shelf units that will be removed), but I've been working in air conditioned splendor!

    Tobacco Barn Shop

It is a SoleusAir unit. 15000BTU cooling, 14000BTU heating. I'll augment with fans but the thought of being able to work in a relatively cool, bug free environment drove the extra cost of the unit. I put a lot of insulation in...on the coldest days here in Jan/Feb, I was very comfortable at...

    Tobacco Barn Shop

Some updates: Finished the interior paint (two coats of Kilz, two coats of paint), heating/air conditioning unit in, as is all electricity. Plug for compressor is outside the shop in the barn. Floor is next. I have gotten a great deal of feedback on floor coating issues from some folks on...

west of Philly - barn saving

I wrapped my old Tobacco barns in metal both sides and roof. While not as elegant a solution as wood, I liked it a lot better than vinal and it was much cheaper, 14K in all. I love what you have done so far...great project, well executed!
