Id say that anything over 19mm and you really need to be looking at 1/2 and anything over 30mm and you really need to be looking at 3/4 drive. Just because they make sockets is that size doesnt mean that its the right tool for the job.

Unless you need the cut depth of the 7 1/4, Id get the 6 1/2. The saw is going to be cheaper and the blades are going to be cheaper. The only real nice thing about the 7 1/4 is that blades will probably be easier to find and you will likely have a more of a selection of tooth count.
