Welding issues now with older eyes

The magnifying lens makes a huge difference. I have great vision, but wore a buddies hood who had the magnifying lens. Took a second to get used too, but after that I started looking for a magnifying lens for my own hood.

    Shop feeder wire source

I bought my 100' roll of AL 1/0-1/0-1/0-2 from Nassau on eBay. During the Covid-era, it was the cheapest I could find. Looking at prices now, wow did I overpay

    Garage only on vacant lot

100% I work at a small consulting firm and we're usually hired by developers to clear the environmental side of things prior to construction. Just recently I had a project where a developer was proposing 240 town homes. Per the town development code, they needed to have a plan in place to...

    Tooltopia replacement

I wasn't aware of tooltopia shutting down, I've bought a handful of items from them over the years. They were never the cheapest, but always a place where I could compare prices.

Should I choose lights based on Wattage or Lumens?

https://www.primelights.com/collections/bolt/products/the-bolt-2-lamp-led-shop-light-5700lumens-pl-blt44wcl 20 gauge steel according to the description. I've really liked my primelight bolts. Had 6 in my previous garage when they were about $50/piece. My current garage has 10, plus I have 6...

    Does a Hobart 210 MVP need a 3 or 4 wire outlet?

When I installed my 6-50R, 8/2 was cheaper than 10/2 and a 40 amp breaker was the same price as a 30amp. You didn't ask me, but I've also got the 211i. For me its just homeowner hobby stuff and jeep work. 99% of what I do is with 3/16". My only complaint so far (and its really not a big deal)...

    Duplex outlet upgrades

I replaced every outlet in our 1980s house with TR. IIRC, I am using a leviton brand. We have no issues plugging anything in🤷‍♂️ The outlets I replaced, every single one was backstabbed. There were 2-3 that I remember having loose wiring.

How many times did you organize your toolbox before being content?

Carhartt Storm Defender Heavyweight Loose Fit Jacket $83.99

An FYI for anyone--I bought this jacket about a year ago. Its warm, does a great job at blocking wind, and fits well. But it is far from what I would consider a rain jacket. In any moisture, my baselayer gets wet within an hour.

Getting a winch to wind evenly under a load

For my jeep, I typically find an anchor point on relatively flat ground and use the weight of the jeep to spool with a very light parking brake. I just nudge the synthetic rope over if needed. Been doing this for years.

Meet Vic, the 47 Willys CJ2A....

Awesome story! Following along. I've always wanted a willy's to cruise around in.

Looking for a small air compressor, limited use

I've got the rol-air FC2002. Similar notes. Quiet enough. I use it regularly on the weekends; general cleaning of the garage, tires, had no issue running a crown stapler yesterday. It will blow out a sprinkler system just fine too. It struggles on a 15 amp circuit though, its much happier on a...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Second coat of cabinet door paint. Moving onto drawers next but need to strip the wallpaper inside them and replace the center rollers. Replaced this grungy and broken outlet, lightswitch and cover with a new while waiting for paint to dry. And wiped down the bessey vise. It was covered in...

    Show your new tool arrivals

This arrived on Friday Spent all day saturday with an abrasive cubitron disc. Love it. The rapid stop is a really nice feature and the disc was done spinning before I could even put the grinder on the ground. The paddle trigger is easy to operate. It came with (2) 6ah HO batteries, but I had...
