My dad had about a 1 foot piece he got out of the railroad yard where he worked and kept it in the garage. He used it basically as a heavy piece of utility metal- door stop, tamp, anvil, weight, block, etc.

Is that red cut up railroad tie used as some kind of anvil? It sure looks good whatever you use it for.

I don't think I am cheap, but I also glue sneaker soles if they need it. I also repair my tools and cars instead of throwing them away when that happens.

I have a mesh “trash” bag a tad bigger than that is round/cylindrical and I use it in one of the vehicles. It was free with something I bought 5 or 10 years ago. Very handy.
