Looks like I'm going with the hobart 210mvp. was checking them out today at atwoods and what sold me on it was the miller gun that came with it. Going to order from northerntool tomorrow, $879, no tax and free shipping. Only drawback it comes from hobart so itll take 7-12 days to get here.

The local atwoods sells Hobart, I"m going to go check them out on my break tomorrow, I may end up getting one if they're at a decent price there.

Do I NEED infinite voltage settings? Being the HH has 7 settings, I should be able to get it dialed in close? This is going to be a hobby/home use only welder. Maybe some sheet metal work, repairing trailers, 4 wheeler frames, etc, etc.

And I started reading about the Hobart handler 210mvp... So Hobart is Miller's economy line, right? What exactly is different on them? If it's plastic handles and stuff like that that doesn't matter to me, what about the guts? drive wheels.. etc..? Northerntool has them for $879 with free shipping.

Plus $35 shipping and $115 for tax, it would be $1287 if I got it through miller.

And it wouldn't be 966, that's after buying $150 worth of extra stuff and getting a 15% check back, it's only 5% back if you buy the welder alone.

Well, I went and picked up my loan $ today, the local shop is $1200 out the door for the 211, but I found this company on ebay that has them for 1069+free shipping, That also includes the rebate form for the 5% cash back. So it would come out to about $1015 after I get the rebate check.. Decent...

My next question is, will the 211 actually weld 3/8"? I doubt I'll ever need to do anything that heavy, just don't want to get one that says it'll do it, but actually won't.

I've got a small 2 gallon, I think. Campbell hausfeld I got a walmart a few years back when I was building speakerboxes with a brad gun, worked great for that, and still works great now.

Are the regulators that come with the millers a good one? I don't want to spend $1100 on a good welder, and end up having to get a different regulator.

Looking at the miller site, their 211 dual voltage one welds thicker than their cheaper 220v one... 3/8 on the 211 and 5/16 on the other one.

Got approved for a 1200$ loan today, going to get either the millermatic 211 120/240v or the Lincoln equivalent. I've heard good stuff about both, what's your guys opinions on them?

I figured the problem out on my cheapo welder, I wasn't cleaning the metal good enough. Now it welds good. I've been using .030 flux, if I bump it to .035 will I get hotter/deeper welds? It's a Campbell hausfeld with a high/low switch. Been running high with .030 flux and doing ok. Reason...

220v isn't out of the question, but I'd like to keep it 110v if I ever wanted to take it somewhere that didn't have 220. Also we've got 220 in the shop, but it's got an old style plug for some old printing presses, and the electrician wants about $100 to just add a new style plug right beside...
