Hi all, just like so many that have come before me I have been inspired by the awesome builds on this site. Now it's time to share my adventure in the world of DIY shop builds. I started building earlier this spring (which is summer for most of the country) I have made some progress but since my...

    garage door quality?

Hi all I'm in the market for 3 new commercial doors. So far Ive got quotes from Martin, Raynor and wayne-Dalton. They need to have good insulation and hold up to strong winds. Raynor is $2000 more then the others, are they worth it? What's everybody's though?

Heat pump using warm crawl space air, possible?

Is it possible to use the warm air from my crawl space to heat the house. Even in -20 temps my crawl space stays above 45. How can I use that air to heat the house? Heat pump, mini split? All the heat pumps I see are outside. I really want to run hydronic but from what I'm reading the technology...

    Wood beam type manufactures

I'm thinking bout building a barn type shop, clear span 40x64 but I would like to have exposed beams and posts instead of trusses. Pole barn with SIPs

Happy Friday all, Anyone ever used SIPS to insulate a pole barn? I'm thinking of building a PB with the conventional techniques, 6x6 posts on a concrete column or in a column 8' on center then running SIPs on the exterior of the posts resting on a sill plate that is secured to the slab. Thought...

    Lifting trusses in sections

Hi all, I asked a question on the tractor by net page and got a response that got me thinking. I am wondering if this is a good idea. Assemble 8' sections of trusses on the ground to include the gable ends and nail down as much sheeting as possible (depending on the Wyoming winds that day)...

My thought is it will assist in the...

    Geothermal in floor heat question.

Happy Friday I'm building a 40 x 60 pole barn in the next couple years and have been leaning towards geothermal for heating and cooling. I'll be doing most of it my self so I'll be digging a trench for the pipe run. My question is is just circulating the 55 deg water through the slab be enough...
