Two questions on this gambrel roof design please

I'm planning a small gambrel shed/garage intended for a 4 post lift so I can get a car up for storage and maintenance. The roof design is below. Shed is 14'w x 20'd. Here are my questions. Can these specs be achieved with no bottom chord? The point here is to have clear span for hoisting a...

PICS ARE HERE: Help me get this pole barn ready for vehicle storage. Would like to get this pole barn ready for 50% equipment and 50% classic vehicle storage. These cars are not priceless, but nice. A small handful, worth about $20k ea. This pole barn was never really quite finished, and now...

New sisal wheel is eating compound and flinging it everywhere. WTF

Hi, I just mounted a new 8" sisal wheel on my bench buffer which turns at 3400ish rpm. The wheel is just chewing my bar of emery compound apart and none of it is sticking on the new wheel. My old wheel held the compound. I even tried trimming all the loose sisal off the wheel. Still no luck...

NOW WITH PICS! I'm the "The Radial Arm Saw Ranger" and I went WAY old school!

NOW WITH PICS! I'm the "The Radial Arm Saw Ranger" and I went WAY old school! NOW WITH PICS!!! I'm a noob, but I'm pretty excited about my recent haul. I picked up an entire RAS package from and estate sale for $80. It included a (almost never) used saw, stand, dust collector, and a number...

"The Radial Arm Saw Ranger": I went WAY old school!

I'm a noob, but I'm pretty excited about my recent haul. I picked up an entire RAS package from and estate sale for $80. It included a (almost never) used saw, stand, dust collector, and a number of blades and accessories. It's the famous Craftsman Radial 100 "Accra-Arm", Model 113.29410...

"Creeping Death" in my basement. I am FREAKING OUT!

This is a corner in my basement. It is a walkout built into the side of a hill. I'm the new owner for 18 months; house is 65 years old. I have a dehumidifier running down there 24/7 and my humidistat reports an average 62% humidity down there this summer. On the other side of the corner is a...

HELP running air compressor with two motors

I recently acquired a complete Kellogg American 331 compressor circa 1959. The 5hp three phase motor is bad. I can't run three phase at my home shop, so I'm planning on running two 120v single phase motors to run the pump. (It would be more work than I want right now to run a new 240v circuit...

ID this vintage electric motor! HELP

I pulled this motor off of an old school style bench grinder, you know, the kind your grand-dad built out of sheet metal and connected the grinding wheels to the motor by a belt. Anyway, I estimate this motor to be built in the 40's but I can't hardly read any of the ID plates. I plugged it in...

An Almighty Air Compressor... or, what?!?!?

I have a chance to grab up what I think is a nice deal on an air compressor, but I'd like your advice on it. The nut is: its not running and the seller has no idea why. The seller is a front-desk lady at an auto shop that just can't tell me anything about it (whether the motor is bad, the pump...

Table saw, sliding compund and router all in one workbench

I've scrapped the previous owner's bench in my workshop and am ready to start anew. Does anyone have any examples/plans of a workbench (MODULAR OR OTHERWISE) that incorporates a table saw, sliding compound miter saw and router all in one? Thanks so much. I don't really want to build three...

FIRST POST! Bench top question about go-to tools

Hi all! Great site. I love it! I've got a decently outfitted 2 car garage that I've done a ton of projects in. Most recently this vintage bobber build. Any way, I find myself, over and over again, pulling out the same three or four tools no matter what the project is. Typically they are a...
