Got a call this morning, a local MOT (safety inspection) station got hit last night. It's next door to the shop i used to run, very near the shop i run now. The guy who's stuff got stolen is like a brother to my mate who i work for. I feel for him, ****** situation. They went in through the...

Air Hammers: Long or Short Stroke?

I'm looking to buy an air hammer, mostly likely an IR 118 or 122. What's better in terms of performance a long or short stroke? Another thing i'm wondering about is hex or round shank. If i buy a hex shank hammer, can i still use round shank bits in it? I'm guessing a hex shank means...

    Recommend a cut-off tool!

Hey, folks, I want to buy a little air cut-off tool, useful for rusty exhaust bolts and all kinds of stuff, but am unsure which to buy. There's loads of cheap ones out there, but i don't want something that's going to die the second time i use it. A co-worker has a Blue-Point (rebranded...

    My New Toy!

Here it is, after almost TWO DAYS of waiting for it, my Fluke 289 has arrived! It's a pretty serious industrial multimeter, graphing/logging capabilities, and more functions than i'll ever need. Here's me using it to test a VW ignition amplifier.. Graphing is cool! Close-up of the...

    OEM For Blue-Point Hand Impact?

Does anyone know the OEM for this hand impact? I'm after one but i'm not spending £110 for a Taiwan rebranded one. I've found ones that i believe to be the same but the hand grips are very slightly different...

    Best Blowtorch?

Ok, Peeps, here's the deal - where i work we don't have oxy-acetylene and this presents me with a problem when it comes to heating stuff. (Who'da thunk it?) I don't know what's required to get oxy-acetylene nor am i prepared to pay that cost or deal with whatever paperwork is needed, so i'm...

    Today's Transplants

After going out and buying an 11mm drill bit for something totally unrelated, i remembered it's the size i needed for drilling out handles for 3/8" and 1/2" Snap-on ratchets. Sooooo... The green-handled SHL80 is for Diesel-Mech, the SHF80 and FHF936 are for me. :)

    PM Test

For clutch pressure plate bolts i use a deep Snap-on 3/8" socket. Thin-walled, clears the housing. But i doubt you'll have a problem with any brand. Other pressure plates often need a 6mm hex driver. I don't think there are any other special clutch tools, unless you get into self-adjusting...

    Moose Introduces A World First!

Moose Presents A World First! As a way to say thank you to DaMaN for helping me ship all my tools, i asked him what kind of handles he prefered, so i could transplant one onto a THL72 for him. He told me that he likes Snap-on hard red Instinct handles, so i set to work! I started out with a...

    Multimeters

Howdy Folks, Having (temporarily) run out of other tools to buy, i've decided it's time to buy a multimeter. Having survived without one, it's time i got that basic piece of diagnostic equipment. I was planning to just buy one once, not buy one and upgrade later, but i found a Fluke 15B...

    Cross-Brace Engine Supports

Does anyone else use/have one of these? I found one at work and use it all the time. It's about as basic as could be, just a support that goes across the engine bay and supports the engine off one of the lift rings. They great for things like changing clutches and timing belts. Or pretty much...
