Ryobi 18v, 22" hedge trimmer review

Decided I needed to do something about the bushes and shrubs around the house and knew the ancient, corded trimmer I had wasn't going to cut it. Looked online and saw the (new?) Ryobi P2606A 22" trimmer for sale at the Home Depot for $69.97. Only had 16 reviews but all were positive so I thought...

    proper temp drop per hour?

With cooling season upon us down south, what's the ideal temp drop (delta?) per hour? I heard 2F, buy want to make sure. I think mine is a little more than that and why I can never get my inside humidity below 50%. Air leaks aside, I also have roughly 400ft/sq of conditioned space mostly closed...

    Mounting my grandpa's 3" vise...

I want to put this vise on a small shelf/bench made with 2x6 top and 2x4 "legs" that are screwed into the studs. I don't expect anything more than light duty use as a third hand and to help bend small tubing. Think some lag screws will be enough to hold it?

old tennis ball on a string trick

What's the best way to hang a tennis ball on a string to use as a way to know when to stop the truck in the garage? By that I mean while I have the truck parked in there. My **** is too heavy to not dent the hood sitting on it, and reaching over the truck from the side to get the thing in place...

    florescent color differences

My buddy gave me some old tubes from his work so I could compare the different colors of various bulb temps, so I thought I'd share. The phone made the colors a little bluer than what my eye naturally sees, but I think it's a pretty good reference for people on the fence as to what they want...

    Something you won't see today

I was reading the manual for my Carrier 38GS-042 series condenser unit (fan went out last night) and saw this gem. Thought some of you might get a kick out of this. :eyecrazy:

    Accidental yard sale find!

I was killing time earlier today looking for deals at the big box stores. As I left Lowe's, decided to take the long way home and came across a yard sale. Stopped on a lark and found this old gal. Asked how much and pulled the trigger despite knowing she needed a lot of work. $5 for 9" of USA...

    workbench build - shelving?

Not a lot of posts regarding workbench shelf spacing that I could find, so thought I'd ask for expert opinions. I want to put in a couple extra shelves on the right side of my bench using the scrap 3/4" ply I have. These are going to hold misc stuff for easy access while working and may...

    good, small 90* clamp?

I decided that having a couple small 90* clamps would make life so much easier when making stuff, so I picked up some Irwin light duty clamps at Lowe's. Now the purpose of these was just to act as a third hand while drilling pilot holes and screwing things together, not a lot of force needed...

    High limit swtich keeps tripping

Had some issues with my ancient gas furnace (Carrier 58ssb095-120cc) and traced it back to the high temp limit switch tripping causing it to shut down the burners right before the blower kicked on. Replaced the inducer due to age, the limit switch, filter, and cleaned the blower fan. Now it's...

    Lowe's clearing out JM insulation

If you need some insulation, Lowe's is clearing out the Johnson Manville insulation to make room for Owens Corning. Looks like 20% off now. Ymmv as it may be a local or regional thing, but wanted to let you know.

PTAC heating element died and N/A... can I substitute?

Went to repair the heating element in my ancient Trane PTAC (ptea1201) and found out the part hasn't been made or available for years. I'd like to have it for supplemental heating since it is right next to my workbench in the shop area. Does anyone know if it would be possible to substitute it...

Great price for a garage heater

I picked up a 5000w, 17k BTU Comfort Zone garage heater from Northern Tool for $99 over the weekend. Installed it in a 588sqft garage (28x21) that's mostly insulated to R13 and needs a door seal. It took a few hours, but brought the temps up from freezing to above 60*. It looks like they...

Fresh air/venting after air sealing garage

Hi all, I have a 21x28 attached garage/shop that I've been in the process of insulating and air sealing it since moving in to give my 1-ton PTAC a fighting chance of keeping the garage comfortable. My attic access is in the garage (sealed as best as I could), so I'm wondering if I should install...
